SOUTH HERO – Members of a local Masonic lodge and a South Hero restaurant recently raised thousands of dollars for a youth mentoring organization based in Grand Isle County.
Grand Isle County Mentoring, a school-based mentoring service working with youth from the Champlain Islands, announced earlier this month that the Isle of Patmos Lodge #17 had, with support from McKee’s Island Pub and Pizza, raised $8,000 for the local mentoring organization.
In a statement recently shared with The Islander, Grand Isle County Mentoring said it was grateful for the local Masonic lodge and South Hero restaurant’s “generous support of the organization’s school-based mentoring programs.”
“Their contribution helps [Grand Isle County Mentoring] continue matching mentors with students across all island schools, fostering confidence, self-esteem and positive growth in local youth,” read a statement shared by the local mentoring organization.
A school-based program, Grand Isle County Mentoring is an initiative pairing adult mentors with local youth during the school year. According to the organization, pairs matched through the program will meet weekly to play games, work on projects and spend time with one another while “practicing life [and] social skills, and simply enjoying each other’s company.”
The organization is encouraging anyone interested in mentoring to contact Grand Isle County Mentoring’s programming coordinator Bonnie Codey at either 802-307-2056 or via email at [email protected]. Readers can also learn more online at gic-mentoring.org.
