Are you in the mood for a blast of color that will knock your socks off? Come on down to Harwich Conservation Trust’s (HCT) Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve and take in the amazing yellow sea of coreopsis, now in bloom at the Preserve’s trailhead, which leads visitors to a half-mile wheelchair accessible All Persons Trail.

A team from the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) visited the Hinckleys Pond-Herring River Headwaters Preserve on a stellar spring day to marvel at the eco-restoration completed by Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) and partners. The pond views next to the Cape Cod Rail Trail are fabulous! Start your summer inspired by art! Meet acclaimed artist Yvette Stenzel, admire her vibrant work and support Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) at a fabulous reception on June 12th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at The 204: Cultural Arts Center (204 Sisson Rd, Harwich).

Stenzel’s original paintings can be purchased, with all proceeds benefiting HCT. Have a creative night out, enjoy delicious appetizers catered by the Family Table Collaborative and support your favorite local land trust!

In addition to the June 12 reception, the gallery will be open June 15 through June 23, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Join local guide Mark McGrath tomorrow morning for a Fort Hill & Red Maple Swamp History Walk in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Enjoy beautiful views and hear unique stories and fun facts about the area. The walk will explore the Fort Hill trails, Indian Rock, Hemenway boat launch (where we may spot horseshoe crabs during mating season), and return via the Red Maple Swamp Trail.

Birdability, a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing the joys of birding with people who have disabilities, hosted a recent Blind Birder Bird-a-Thon event at Harwich Conservation Trust's (HCT) Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve. An expert from Mass Audubon was also on hand to help sight-challenged participants and their sighted partners identify birds by listening to their calls and songs. HCT’s Cold Brook Preserve was a great location for the gathering, as it features a half-mile All Persons Trail with a smooth, even and flat surface. To read more, click here: bit.ly/4twzgYO

Spring migration is in full swing on the Cape! Join naturalist and author Peter Trull for birding field classes at Bell’s Neck Conservation Lands in Harwich and at Foss Woods in Provincetown (co-sponsored by Provincetown Conservation Trust). Possible sightings include colorful warblers, vireos, tanagers, grosbeaks, and orioles.

Learn about the unique adaptations, life history, and habits of each bird species encountered. Birding enthusiasts from all experience levels are welcome! Please bring binoculars.

Many thanks to the Cape Cod Foundation! Harwich Conservation Trust’s (HCT) Six Ponds-Hawksnest Woods Project received a big boost with a generous $50,000 grant from the Cape Cod Foundation’s Priscilla Alden Sears Memorial Fund.

The grant was awarded to HCT in support of an ongoing $400,000 fundraising effort to help HCT with its pursuit of a 2.3-acre woodland parcel on Round Cove Road in Harwich. The property could serve as a future trailhead for convenient access to explore an extensive network of trails in Hawksnest State Park and the town’s Six Ponds District.

HCT is grateful to the Cape Cod Foundation and also deeply appreciative of our partnerships with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Harwich and The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trust, Inc. (The Compact).

The 11th annual volunteer clean-up event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Gather your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors and join us to pick up trash along Harwich’s roadsides to beautify the town.
