A Look Back: Three Roads to Revolution! 🇺🇸

What a fascinating afternoon of history, stories, and community! A couple of weeks ago, we were thrilled to welcome Professor Jonathan M. Beagle for Three Roads to Revolution — a fascinating look at how Massachusetts communities helped set the stage for American independence.

As part of our America 250 celebration, Jonathan took us back to the turbulent years leading up to 1776, exploring the unique paths taken by Lexington, Concord, and Marblehead as they moved toward resistance and revolution. We also learned how their stories connected with communities across western Massachusetts, including Hadley, helping create a powerful colony-wide patriot movement.

Who knew there were three roads to revolution? 😉 History has a way of reminding us that big moments are often built from the actions, courage, and determination of individual communities.

A huge thank you to Professor Beagle for bringing this fascinating chapter of our history to life, and to the Friends of the South Hadley Seniors for sponsoring the delicious dessert that helped make the afternoon even sweeter! 🍰

📸 Here are a few photos from this wonderful event. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared in the conversation, and helped us celebrate 250 years of American history!

🎉 Big news! The South Hadley Council on Aging has been selected as one of 750 grantees nationwide to receive a 2026 AARP Community Challenge grant from AARP Livable Communities!

With this grant, we're launching a Peer Technology Mentor Program at the Senior Center. We'll train five tech-savvy volunteers (age 50+) to give one-on-one tech help and training classes to fellow members. We’ll cover things like video calls with the grandkids, password resets, spotting scams, photo storage, and software updates, on whatever device you own.

The goal: roughly triple our tech-help capacity, cut the wait for an appointment, and reach 200+ neighbors a year. Let’s go!
