💜 Celebrating the Next Generation of Nurses

This year, Brittney’s Believers was honored to award two scholarships to graduating seniors from South Hadley back in May, helping support their next steps as they pursue their dreams.

Today, we want to introduce you to one of our recipients, Tyler Scott, who is beginning his freshman year at Wheaton College, where he will be pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Tyler’s decision to become a nurse was deeply personal. Inspired by his father, a paramedic, and by watching his sister battle cancer. Tyler saw firsthand the difference compassionate nurses can make during some of the hardest moments a family can face.

“When my sister Jillian was diagnosed with Leukemia, it was devastating, but I saw the one-on-one care the nurses took with her and I knew then that’s what I wanted to do.”

Tyler aims to become an ER nurse, “I want to be the person that takes away some of the stress and confusion from an already stressful situation.”

At Brittney’s Believers, our mission is not only to honor Brittney’s life and support childhood cancer research and families, but also to invest in the people who will make a difference in the lives of patients and families for years to come.

We are so proud to play a small part in Tyler’s journey and cannot wait to see where his compassion, drive, and dedication take him.

Congratulations, Tyler! We’re wishing you an incredible freshman year and a future filled with opportunities to make the difference you already know you want to make. 🎓💜

Hot off the Press! Samuel and co-authors describe the role of TrkB in the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, highlighting a new form of medicine turning off TrkB in an "allosteric" manner (created by study co-lead Dr Tyuji Hoshino at Chiba University).

The international collaborators include researchers and clinicians at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Colorado Denver. This project was primarily supported by an anonymous donor in honor of Alyssa, and partially supported by Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and resources from the Fugaku supercomputer center.

🍦 LukeStronger Ice Cream Fundraiser — Wednesday August 19th
Join Luke Stronger at Batch Ice Cream Shop in South Hadley from 5 PM–close! Brittney was selected by Luke Stronger in 2023, and their support has always held a special place in our hearts. Come grab some ice cream and support their continued work helping local families impacted by childhood cancer!

👜 WMCD Inc. Designer Purse Bingo — Sunday August 23rd
Doors open at noon at Carriage House @ Storrowton Tavern in West Springfield. WMCD is a youth-run nonprofit that supports the work of local nonprofits. We were honored to be one of their recipients of their All-Nighter event this past February, so we’re excited to now show up and support them!

Today, we are honored to share a very special donation gift made in memory of James Dias by the Dighton Rehoboth Class of 2026. 💙

We met James and his family in 2022, when we were all in Boston for proton radiation. James was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at just 14 years old. He was known for being cool, calm, optimistic, an accomplished athlete, and someone with a passion for technology. Sadly he passed away in 2024 at just 16.

This year, James should have been graduating, walking across the stage with his classmates. Instead, they made sure he was still a part of the celebration, remembering him, speaking his name, and honoring the impact he made on his school and community.

Hearing Rylie speak about James in this video is incredibly touching. Her words are filled with so much love and kindness, and are a beautiful reminder that James is still very much a part of their story.

To James’ family, thank you for trusting us to honor James and carry his legacy forward. And to Rylie and the Class of 2026, thank you for remembering James and choosing to honor his life in such a meaningful way. 💜🎗️💙⚾️

This was Brittney’s 1st time riding a bike, in the halls of the hospital, with an IV pole of chemo drugs pushed behind her. This was her second round, and she just wanted to be a kid, have fun and learn to ride a bike. She even imagined ducks crossing in the halls, like she was outside.

Researcher and Founder Spotlight

"At cc-TDI, we're trying to change history and living a mission-driven life makes the 'why' easy."

For Dr. Charles Keller, curiosity sparked a career in science, but empathy has always been the driving force.

"I'd say curiosity is the reason we're in science, and empathy is the drive to help those with underserved medical needs. Our goal is simple: to give back childhood."

That mission is personal.

As a child, Charles was small for his age and struggled with a stutter and lisp. Thanks to the support of speech therapists and teachers who believed in him, he found his voice. Their advice stayed with him:

"Pay it forward."

Today, that lesson lives on through his work to develop better treatments for children with sarcoma and other rare pediatric cancers.

This Sarcoma Awareness Month, we're grateful for the researchers whose compassion is turning hope into progress—one discovery at a time.
