Wanted to update everyone on some recent donations of note to our fund.

Long time supporters Michael and Ellen Esposito made a generous donation last week and we had them sponsor one of our scholarship grants last week. Thanks again to the Esposito's.

Also got a nice donation from an old classmate of mine from 1977. Mario Sicari and his firm BGS Capital Management made a very nice donation. Thanks Mario.

The Second Reformed Church of Hackensack made a donation in memory of Emma Mutchler, a long time teacher at the high school.

Additionally we received recent donations from the following graduates:

Cynthia and Paul Wackerbarth
Deborah Shivetts
Mary Keyes
Ronald and Leann Boyd.

On behalf of our board, thanks so much for your generosity.
This is what makes this program successful.

Great night for the Blue and Gold. Karen, Millie and I presented at the Senior Scholarship Night at the high school. We awarded six scholarships each worth $10,000 to some very deserving students.

They are:
Sage Williamson Grant
Dhaniah Imani Coley
Samiyah Belton
Aryanna Rodriguez
Aisha Gutierrez Powery
Griffin Tavares

Wishing them all the best in the future.

Below are my comments from last night:

Good Evening
My name is Doug Vicari. I am a graduate of the class of 1977. With me is my wife Karen Vicari who is a graduate of the class of 1979. We are honored to be here tonight representing the Ed Acciardi Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund and presenting scholarships on its behalf. As you may or may not know, this program was founded over 25 years ago by Ed Acciardi after his retirement as a guidance
counselor at this high school. Ed advised many students over his career about what to do beyond high school and what options were out there for graduating seniors. His commitment to this program was unwavering. Sadly, Ed passed away in early 2025 but we are committed to continuing to fulfill his mission of helping
our graduates. Since its inception, this program has awarded approximately two hundred scholarships and tonight we are thrilled to award six scholarships each in the amount of $10,000 to some very deserving students.

Our first scholarship is sponsored by one of our officers, Millie Nadal, in honor of her son Hoshiko who passed away at the young age of 23. Millie has been a big supporter and donor as well as an important member of the Blue and Gold team over the years. So, this first scholarship goes to Sage Williamson Grant who will be
attending Cedar Crest as a Nursing student in the fall. She had a great GPA while managing many extracurricular activities. Well done, Sage.

Long time donors and HHS graduates Michael and Ellen Esposito sponsored our second scholarship. They have supported our program for many years. This scholarship goes to Dhaniah Imani Coley who will be a business major at William Paterson University in the fall. Dhaniah showed a strong entrepreneurial spirit in
her activities while producing a great academic record while in school. Congrats.

Our third scholarship goes to Samiyah Belton who will be attending Hampton University studying Early Childhood Education in the fall. Samiyah was able to combine athletics and cheerleading with a strong GPA. Great work Samiyah.

Our fourth scholarship goes to Aryanna Rodriguez who will be attending Stockton University studying forensic psychology in the fall. Aryanna had numerous extra activities that she combined with a high GPA. Nice work Aryanna.

Our fifth scholarship tonight goes to Aisha Isabel Gutierrez Powery who will be studying Nursing at Washington State University. Another outstanding student who managed athletics with community service while producing a great academic
record. Best of luck Aisha.

Our sixth and final scholarship of the evening is awarded in memory of Ed Acciardi, our founder, who passed away last year. This scholarship will become a new Blue and Gold tradition, and our first recipient is Griffin Tavares, who balanced athletics, academics, and community service throughout his time at HHS. Griffin will attend Monmouth University in the fall to study Marine Biology.

On behalf of the Blue and Gold Trustees, Officers and Donors I would like to congratulate our recipients and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

I attended a small informal gathering of the Class of 1977 on May 2nd at the Twin Door Inn in Maywood. It was great to reconnect with old friends and classmates. I did spend a little time talking up the Blue and Gold asking everyone to follow our page and spread the word to friends and classmates. Attached is the flyer we developed to help in this effort. It would be great if we can get more people following us from many class years to see what we are doing and staying connected to our mission.

To all of our dedicated Blue and Gold followers, I am writing to announce we are launching our mail in fundraising campaign. This year's campaign is dedicated to Ed's memory and is a great way to continue to support his commitment to HHS graduates. We have roughly 1,400 loyal followers in our mailing list and we are asking for your continued support for the Blue and Gold. We have had good success with past campaigns, and the goal of this year's program is not only to raise money for our grants but to increase our database. The more folks who are aware and involved in the Blue and Gold the better.

So please spread the word by sharing this post or asking to follow our page. This year's campaign letter is provided.
If you are not sure if you are on our mailing list, please feel free to reach out to us. And don't hesitate to talk to your fellow HHS graduates and friends about the B&G and its efforts.

Thank you all for your support of the Blue and Gold.

On Behalf of the Trustees of the Blue & Gold Scholarship, we extend our warmest wishes for a joyful Passover and a blessed Easter.

To all the friends and followers of the Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund we are excited to share that we are relaunching and re-energizing the program under new leadership. It has been a little over a year since we lost our founder and mentor Ed Acciardi but after taking a little time to reorganize, we remain strongly committed to the goals and objectives Ed had outlined when he started this program 26 years ago. As you know, since its original launch, the Blue and Gold has helped my Hackensack High School students in achieving their educational objectives and we are committed to continuing in this worthwhile endeavor. We are proud to bring this program back with renewed energy, a strong commitment to serving the HHS community and a new team of administrators committed to the mission. With your continued support we look forward to building on that success and creating even greater opportunities for those who need it most.

Our new team consists of Doug Vicari (Class of 1977) and his wife Karen (Class of 1979) along with a combination of both new and legacy officers and trustees. They are Sal Frassetto, John Trobiano, Fran Borg, Vincent Trovini, Todd Hali, Bob Bollerman, Al Garino, Jack Zisa, Ken Crusius, Lou D'Arminio, Gary Wuertenberg, Millie Nadal, Mark Stein and Tim Jordan. With this team we hope to expand our impact by reaching more graduates, increasing community awareness and continuing to reward deserving graduates of HHS.

We invite you to join us in this exciting new chapter. Whether through volunteering, partnership or donations your involvement will play a vital role in helping us achieve our goals and objectives. If you would like to learn more about the program or explore ways to get involved, please contact us. We plan on creating new committees focusing on marketing, networking, communication and events and any help from HHS alumni will be appreciated. It is a great way to get involved and give back to a place that we all have fond memories of.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making a difference.

We look forward to hearing from you.

FYI a shout out to Patricia Carlucci, Millie Nadal and Carmine Polifronio for their recent donations.

Regards Doug and Karen Vicari
