We are sad to announce the passing of former Mayor/Councilmember W.H. Bill De Witt. De Witt was first elected to serve as a Member of the South Gate City Council in November of 1980, and served on and off for 23 years. De Witt grew up in Southern California, a graduate of the University of Southern California and served in the United States Coast Guard. He was also a respected business owner within the city.

The City Council and staff send their heartfelt condolences to his wife Mary and the entire De Witt family. Service arrangements are pending by the family.

The City Council will be adjourning in memory of former Mayor/Councilmember Bill De Witt at their September 12, 2023 City Council meeting.
