We don’t wait for outside industries to validate our narratives. SELA tells its own stories. 🎬🎞️✨
We are proud to introduce CineSELA—a dedicated community film series hosted right here at La Línea, spotlighting the visionary local directors shaping cinema across Southeast Los Angeles.
This fall, we are opening our doors for intimate screenings, deep-dive filmmaker Q&As, and an open space to talk craft, inspiration, and independent storytelling from our own neighborhoods:
* SEPT ‘26: Polaris Castillo
* OCT ‘26: David R. Hernandez
* NOV ‘26: Eddie Aguirre
Our space is built on radical community care, local art, and civic incubation. Bringing local cinema straight to Tweedy Blvd is the next evolution of making our shop a true cultural sanctuary.
Pull up, meet the directors, get inspired, and celebrate the incredible creative talent born right here in our streets.
📍 Hosted at La Línea: 4471 Tweedy Blvd, South Gate, CA

Reclaiming the lens on our own terms. 📸✨
From 24-hour surveillance cameras overhead on Florence & Pacific to news crews on the sidewalk, our streets are constantly being watched. But nobody captures the real soul of SELA like the people who actually live and create here.
We are excited to invite you to pull up to the next SELA Photo Walk! We’re coming together to document our vibrant community—the culture, our abuelas sharing stories on the bench, the quinceañera storefronts, and the everyday resilience of our neighborhoods.
Even better: the SELA Photo Walk crew will officially be joining us for the upcoming South Gate Art Walk! 🎨🚶🏽‍♂️
Whether you shoot on a professional rig, point-and-shoot 35mm film, or just your phone, pull up, connect with local creatives, and document our block from the inside out.
🗓️ Stay tuned for official meet-up details & route drops!

Healing and justice aren’t spectator sports. They require all of us in the room. 🌿✊🏽
We are honored to open our space to host California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ) and East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice (EYCEJ) for a critical Healing Justice Plática.
This is an open invitation for the men, paternal figures, and masculine relatives in our communities to pull up a chair and join the conversation. Reproductive justice is a collective responsibility. We are creating a grounded, safe container to unpack machismo, address abortion stigma, and engage in art, reflection, and real healing practices.
Transformation starts when we stop avoiding the difficult conversations and start doing the internal work together.
La sanación y la justicia comunitaria requieren el compromiso de todos. 🌿✊🏽

They canceled the Street Fair, but we’re not letting the neighborhood stay quiet. 🤝 The South Gate Art Walk is stepping up to fill the gap. See you this Sunday.

True community safety isn’t built on mass surveillance. It’s built on protecting the people who live here from systemic errors. 🏛️🚫🛡️
This past week, I stepped up to the podium at the South Gate City Council meeting to address something that directly impacts every resident and small business owner on the block: the use of automated police surveillance systems like Flock cameras.
We often hear local government talk about technology as a magic bullet for safety. But organizations like the ACLU and The Marshall Project have exposed the stark reality: these systems are frequently misused, lack transparency, and can have devastating real-world costs. Look at what happened to Jalil Richardson in Florida—an innocent man wrongfully jailed for 50 days, losing his home and livelihood, all because an algorithm made an error.
As a long-time resident and a local business owner, my message to the council was clear: California’s SB 54 exists for a reason, but an ordinance on paper doesn’t fix a culture of automated surveillance. We shouldn’t be funding systems that treat our community like suspects by default. I am asking our city council to suspend these automated tracking services immediately. Thankful that city council took a stand against the police state and the community damaging surveillance state
La Línea isn’t just a space for premium cuts; it’s a platform for local resistance and community solidarity. When we speak up, we protect the block. ✊🏘️

“Revenue might go up, but the quality of life for your residents... can just go away in a sec.” 📉💔
Meet Ricardo Carvajal, a South Gate resident and one of the many workers left in the dark by Amazon’s retaliatory practices. From being let go on short notice to the struggle for a final paycheck, Ricardo’s story is a wake-up call for the entire SELA community.
As a business owner and advocate, I believe that a city is only as strong as its residents’ livelihoods. We cannot value corporate profit over the families that call South Gate home. 🤝🛡️
Listen to Ricardo’s message for other cities considering bringing in massive facilities like Amazon: Be careful who you bring into your city. 🏘️✊
