Welcome! We are the South Fork Friends Foundation, a small volunteer group that transformed a vision of a spectacular winter wonderland event into a reality. To the delight of all, an amazing show of lights and Holiday spirit were displayed around the South Fork Visitor’s Center in December 2017. This project was made possible through hard work, determination and generous donations of over $7000 f

rom those who were inspired to give to a worthy cause. Recently, we turned official and became an unincorporated, nonprofit association. Our vision is singularly focused: to build a large coalition of Friends who commit to donating $100 per quarter annually (the approximate cost of a nice dinner for two) to fund projects and events that benefit South Fork because SOUTH FORK IS OUR CAUSE. And we are actively pursuing new members. Modeled after an Ohio organization founded in 2006 called 100 Women Who Care, The Friends of South Fork is a results-oriented can-do nonprofit open to all who love our community and would like to see this organization continue spearheading projects and events that positively set South Fork apart, enhance its unique appeal and highlight its amazing natural beauty. When you become a Friend, you are a part of this exciting initiative.

Stronger Together: Building a More Connected Community

Great things happen when neighbors and organizations come together.

The South Fork Community Foundation recently brought together food bank leaders, local organizations, churches, community volunteers, and representatives from South Fork, Creede, and throughout the San Luis Valley to discuss how we can work together to strengthen food assistance efforts in our region.

The goal was simple: share information, coordinate resources, and identify opportunities to better serve individuals and families who need support.

SFCF’s role is to help bring people together—to create connections, encourage collaboration, and help our community find solutions to important challenges.

We are grateful to all of the partners who participated and to the many volunteers who work every day to support our neighbors.

Together, we can build a stronger network of support and a stronger community.

Annual South Fork Community Foundation Scholarship Winners Announced

The South Fork Community Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2026 Scholarship Program, recognizing an outstanding group of high school seniors from across the San Luis Valley.

This year’s scholarships were awarded on a competitive basis to students attending Del Norte, Creede, Center, Sargent, and Monte Vista high schools. The program continues to highlight the Foundation’s commitment to supporting local students as they take the next step in their academic and professional journeys.

Each recipient was selected for academic achievement, strong community involvement, and the respect they have earned from peers, teachers, and employers. All have also demonstrated clear plans for continuing their education at colleges and universities across the country.

The South Fork Community Foundation 2026 scholarship recipients are:

* Corbin Castillio, Sargent High School — Corbin will attend Texas Tech University, where he plans to major in Kinesiology.
* Angel Edmonds, Creede High School — Angel will attend the University of Colorado Denver to study Psychology.
* Charles Heinrich, Creede High School — Charles will attend Adams State University, majoring in History and Education.
* Corbin Horrocks, Del Norte High School — Corbin will study Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.
* Emma Jenkins, Creede High School — Emma will attend Colorado State University as a Graphic Design major.

The Foundation praised this year’s group as a reflection of the talent, character, and ambition found in local schools throughout the valley.

“We are proud to honor these students,” the Foundation shared. “Each of them has worked hard to reach this point, and we are confident they will continue to excel in their college careers and beyond.”

The South Fork Community Foundation extends its congratulations to all recipients and wishes them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their education.

The South Fork Community Foundation is excited to offer a $2,000 one-time scholarship to graduating seniors from Creede School, Del Norte High School, Monte Vista High School, and Sargent High School.

Funds may be used for tuition, books, or on-campus housing at an accredited college, university, community college, or vocational school beginning Fall 2026.

Students pursuing fields that support the future of the San Luis Valley are especially encouraged to apply — but all majors are welcome!

Application Deadline: March 31, 2026
