What does support look like when a student is struggling?

Through PASS—Positive Alternatives for Student Support—students from participating schools can receive academic support, opportunities for connection, and help addressing mental health and substance use challenges.

Originally developed as an alternative to suspension, PASS also supports struggling students who aren’t facing suspension.

Understanding the real risks of caffeine consumption can be life-saving for people of all ages, especially teenagers. With energy drinks such as Monster becoming more and more popular amongst young adults, there has been a significant rise in caffeine-related deaths in otherwise healthy teens. Parents and health-care professionals have begun to speak out against the huge and sometimes fatal risk that uncontrolled access to this much caffeine can have on developing bodies, including heart and brain health. Students, please be aware of the risks of caffeine consumption and limit your daily caffeine intake to the recommended 100 mg.

A few of our BHI riders and volunteers attended last Monday’s gathering at the Family Table Collaborative to celebrate this year’s Second Summer Cycle fundraising efforts. Over the past four years, Second Summer Cycle has raised more than $1 million across all participating organizations—an incredible milestone for our Cape Cod community!

The ride was cancelled. The community wasn’t. ❤️

While we were all disappointed that dangerous rain conditions meant cancelling this year’s Second Summer Cycle, we’ve been reminded of something pretty special: BHI has an incredible community behind it.

There is a lot to celebrate.

Together, Second Summer Cycle has raised more than $1 million in four years, including $285,000 so far this year.

Sometimes, the hardest part is feeling like nobody understands. You probably remember what that was like as an adolescent

That can be especially true for teens facing substance use challenges. They can feel isolated and unsure where to turn.

Cape Teens Rising is a FREE 6-month program for Cape Cod teens, offered through a partnership between Duffy Health Center and Behavioral Health Innovators.

Twice a week, teens connect with peers who understand, build supportive relationships, learn new ways to handle challenges, and work toward their goals with support from a therapist, recovery coach, and peer support staff.

Our Board Chair, Sheila House, shares why this work is so important to her.

After more than 30 years of working with adolescents in the mental health field, Sheila understands that substance use is often connected to something deeper, including anxiety, depression, or trauma.

For Sheila, this work is deeply personal. She has seen too many promising young lives lost to addiction and believes programs like this can help young people find a different path. 💙
