Pack 678 had a great day on the Burlington bike path together! All ages earned their biking belt loop while learning about bike safety at Oakledge park, and then they headed out for some ice cream together after the ride! Way to go, bikers!

Last Monday, our Bear den of 3rd graders worked hard on earning their Whittling belt loop! They learned about pocket knife safety rules, practiced sharpening their knives, and made two carvings: one out of soap (with a butter knife) and one out of wood with their real knives! They have now earned the right to carry a pocketknife at Scout events for the next year until they renew their knife safety training. So proud of these scouts and their new skills!

Pack 678 is having a Dino-mite time at Cub Scout Day Camp this week at the Expo! This dinosaur-themed week has allowed them to be (and meet) paleontologists, create dinosaurs, watch a Dino Magic show, and visit the Dino exhibit at ECHO. They’ve also been doing all the usual Cub Scout camp fun, including archery, BBs, arts and crafts, water play, cooking over coals, and more! Best week of the summer!

South Burlington scouts (pack 678, troops 611 and 6110) will have a table set up to talk to families! If you know anyone who might be interested in scouts this is a great event to have fun in the community and stop by our table!!

Wow, Webelos! Our new Webelos Scouts (rising 4th graders) had a wonderful weekend at Webelos Woods in Mt. Norris! They explored all our Scout camp has to offer and learned the basics of patrol camping. So much fun!

Some members of Pack 678 had such fun at the Grand Isle Fishing Festival this past weekend! We had some Lions, Wolves, and Bears progress through the stations to learn about fish habitats, fishing regulations, knot tying, casting, and watershed protection. Then, we were able to fish in the stocked trout pond! 🎣 Congrats on earning their fishing belt loops!

Many thanks to our Cub Scouts who helped clean up St. John Vianney’s garden and yard A few weekends ago! This parish is so gracious to host us at their lovely facilities and we were happy to show our gratitude in this way!

This morning, two of our Wolf Scouts (and a soon-to-be Lion) did a trash pickup around their school playgrounds at Christ the King School! This was a conservation service project as part of their Champions for Nature belt loop. Once this is complete, then the Wolf den will have done ALL of the 26 belt loops available in this rank!! Great achievement, Wolves!

Many congratulations to our Cubmaster, Wayne Braun, for receiving the Cubmaster of the Year award for our district!! We all know he’s the best and it’s so nice to see others recognizing his hard work! Mr. Braun, we will sorely miss you as you move on to Troop 611! ❤️

Today the Wolf den earned their Spirit of the Water belt loop on a field trip to the Peter Jacob Water Treatment Facility in South Burlington, home to the Champlain Water District. Did you know that all our drinking water comes from Lake Champlain? Did you know how it gets nice and clean for us to drink? Did you know that we have won awards for having some of the most delicious water in the country? Well, our Cub Scouts now do! We saw giant pumps, tanks full of water in the mid-treatment process, cool laboratories where they test the water, and even the control room/security center. Many thanks to Joe Duncan of the Champlain Water District for our tour and this great learning opportunity!
