Join us and our friends on May 6th to demand immediate climate action at Burlington Airport!
Last night (April 15th) was the first Burlington City Council meeting with a new mayor and five new Councilors.
At the meeting Darren Springer, General Manager of the Burlington Electric Department, delivered his annual “Net Zero” Energy Roadmap update. The “Net Zero” Energy Roadmap is Burlington’s climate plan.
It is a complete farce. It must be scrapped. Why?
Among other reasons, it does not count Burlington Airport at all, which is owned and operated by the City of Burlington and produces more than 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
We must scrap the Roadmap, adopt a new Burlington Climate Plan, count all of the airport’s emissions accurately, and reduce emissions at the airport from 2023 levels by 50% by 2030.
This means reducing air traffic at the airport.
What can we do? What should we do?
Follow the lead of actual climate leaders in other countries, who have done the following:
🚫 Abolish military fighter jets (F-35s) from civilian airports.
🚫 Ban private jets and all private aircraft.
🚫 Ban short-haul flights (e.g., to Rutland or Plattsburgh).
🚫 Ban purely recreational flights (i.e., out-and-back sunset flights from the airport).
🚫 Ban night flights and early morning flights.
🚫 Reduce the total amount of flights allowed at the airport annually (i.e., capping the flights to x flights per year).
See you on May 6th! 🔥
