Our Little Picassos and Tacos event was a beautiful reminder that some of the most meaningful moments happen when families come together to create, connect, and celebrate their children!

From the moment the art supplies came out, our little artists got to work bringing their imaginations to life. 🎨✨ Their incredible artwork was filled with color, creativity, personality, and originality—and we couldn't be prouder of how marvelously our children did!

And guess what? Their masterpieces are STILL on display! 🖼️💚 Every time we see their artwork, we're reminded of the amazing creativity, confidence, and potential within each child. These aren't just paintings and art projects; they're expressions of young minds discovering new things, sharing their ideas, and proudly showing the world what they can do. We are so proud of each of our little Picassos!

Beyond the beautiful artwork, we loved seeing families engage with their children, encourage their creativity, and enjoy meaningful time together. Family engagement plays such an important role in a child's growth and development, helping nurture confidence, strengthen relationships, and create memories that last long after the paint dries.

At TCCAA, our Head Start Program is about more than preparing children for school. It's about creating opportunities for children and families to learn, grow, and thrive together.

🌟Big Conversations, Brighter Futures: TCCAA at the Table in Richmond!🌟

Our TCCAA Head Youth and Family Services Team was excited to meet with Dr. Jeffrey Smith, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia, during the VACAP Pathways from Poverty to Prosperity Summit 2026 in Richmond, Virginia, last week!

The summit provided a valuable opportunity to connect with leaders and community partners who share a commitment to expanding opportunities, strengthening families, and creating pathways to success across the Commonwealth.

For TCCAA, conversations like these reinforce the importance of investing in our children, supporting families, and building strong foundations for lifelong learning and self-sufficiency. Through our Head Start and Youth and Family Services department, we remain committed to empowering families and helping individuals reach their full potential.

We are grateful for opportunities to connect, share perspectives, and strengthen relationships that support the communities we serve. When we work together, we can create brighter futures for the next generation! 🌟

🍂🥄 Little Hands, Big Creativity, and a Whole Lot of Fall Fun! 🎃❤️

We’re still smiling as we reflect on the fun we had at Harvest Fest this year hosted by Destination Downtown South Boston! This wonderful community event brought families together for a day filled with fall festivities, creativity, and connection.

Our TCCAA booth was buzzing with excitement as children and families rolled up their sleeves and got creative making their very own scarecrow spoons! 🧡🌾 From choosing colors and adding fun details to proudly showing off their finished creations, the enthusiasm was contagious. Seeing the children’s imaginations come to life and watching families enjoy the experience together reminded us that sometimes the sweetest community moments are found in the simplest activities.

A heartfelt thank-you to Destination Downtown South Boston for hosting such a wonderful event and creating opportunities for our community to connect. And to every family who stopped by, shared a smile, created a scarecrow spoon, and spent a little time with us—we’re so glad you did! 🫶🏽

🎉 Celebrating Growth, Partnership, and New Opportunities! 🎉

Our Tri-County Community Action Agency team was excited to tour EIL Stone in Danville, Virginia, and join them in celebrating their ribbon cutting and first year in business!

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about their work, see their operations firsthand, and connect with a local, family owned business that is making its mark in our region.

At TCCAA, we believe that strong communities are built through collaboration, shared vision, and partnerships that create opportunities for growth and economic success. We look forward to building a meaningful partnership with EIL Stone and exploring ways to work together on future endeavors that positively impact the communities we serve.

🏡🎨 Building Better Communities, One Family at a Time! 🌮❤️

We were excited to welcome our partners from First Citizens Bank to Tri-County Community Action Agency for a visit focused on community impact, collaboration, and the power of investing in local families!

During their visit, the team learned more about our affordable housing and community development efforts through the Westside Mobile Home Park project, an initiative focused on creating opportunities for families to build stability and a brighter future.

They also had the opportunity to experience the creativity and excitement of our Head Start Program by joining us for our “Little Picassos and Tacos” event on September 24! From little artists expressing themselves through creativity to families and community partners coming together, the event was a wonderful reminder that investing in our community means investing in our children, our families, and their futures.

We are grateful to First Citizens Bank for taking the time to learn more about our programs and for supporting efforts that strengthen communities and expand opportunities for the people we serve. Together, we’re building more than houses—we’re helping build stronger families, create greater opportunities, and cultivate thriving communities. We are incredibly grateful for First Citizens Bank’s support of affordable housing and community development through the Westside project. When community partners come together with a shared vision, meaningful change happens!

🔎 Hidden in Plain Sight: Awareness Can Change Everything

What if the warning signs were right in front of us—but we didn’t know what we were looking for?

This week, members of the Tri-County Community Action Agency team joined community partners at Hidden in Plain Sight at Halifax County High School, an important evening focused on helping parents, educators, first responders, and other caring adults recognize the signs of risky behaviors in young people.

Our team was proud to be there, connecting with families and community members and sharing information about the resources available through TCCAA.

The evening provided an immersive look into current drug trends, items commonly found in teens’ rooms, mock risky behaviors, and resources for prevention and intervention, along with important education on Lock and Talk Virginia and Rapid REVIVE opioid overdose reversal training.

Because sometimes what we need to notice is hidden in plain sight.

Prevention starts with awareness. Awareness creates conversations. And conversations can create opportunities to intervene, support, and protect the young people in our communities.

We are grateful to our employees who represented TCCAA and to the community partners who continue to create spaces where families can learn, ask questions, and become better equipped to support the young people in their lives.

At TCCAA, we believe community action means showing up—not just when there is a crisis, but before one happens.

Celebrating the Love of Grandparents at Head Start!

There’s something truly special about the love between grandparents and grandchildren—a love filled with wisdom, laughter, stories, traditions, and memories that last a lifetime.

Our Tri-County Community Action Agency Head Start Program was honored to celebrate Grandparents Day with our wonderful Head Start families recently!

Our little ones had the opportunity to spend meaningful time with some of the special grandparents in their lives, creating memories, sharing smiles, and celebrating the important role grandparents play in helping children learn, grow, and thrive.

Grandparents are more than family—they are storytellers, teachers, encouragers, protectors, and treasured connections to the past who help shape our children's future.

Thank you to all of the grandparents who joined us and helped make this celebration so meaningful. Your presence reminds us that when we surround children with love, support, and strong family connections, we help build stronger families and stronger communities.

One day is not enough to honor the people who spend a lifetime loving, guiding, encouraging, and shaping the lives of our children. Grandparents deserve to be celebrated every day!
