Another option for celebrating Devine Mercy Sunday - Knights of Columbus and their families are encouraged to join Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore for the solemn celebration of the Divine Mercy Sunday Mass and Chaplet beginning at 2 p.m. EDT April 19.

The Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore, where Father McGivney was ordained to the priesthood, and will be streamed on the Knights of Columbus and Saint John Paul II National Shrine YouTube channels.

The Divine Mercy devotion originated in the 1930s with Sister Faustina Kowalska, a young Polish nun who received revelations from Jesus and recorded them in a diary. The messages expressed God’s merciful love for mankind and called for a new feast, Divine Mercy Sunday, to be celebrated annually on the Sunday after Easter.

Pope John Paul II presided at the canonization of St. Faustina 20 years ago this month and used the occasion to establish the Feast of Divine Mercy.

Join the supreme chaplain and Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy (St. Faustina’s religious community) to invoke God’s mercy in this time of global pandemic.

Daily and weekend Masses are now temporarily suspended. Fr. Mower will be live streaming Mass starting Friday at 9am on facebook. Saturday will be live streamed at 4pm and on Sunday at 9am. Please mail offertory to the church office or use our online giving.

PORTLAND---With attention to the guidance from the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and upon consideration of the size of the usual congregations, Bishop Robert P. Deeley is temporarily suspending all daily and Sunday Masses and religious services throughout the Diocese of Portland (covering the entire state of Maine), effective immediately. The bishop is also issuing a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass for Maine Catholics during this time.
In anticipation of questions which might arise, baptisms, funerals, and weddings, including with Mass, may continue but only with immediate family present for the Mass.
