Wondering what they’re saying? “POWER!” That’s right because that’s what we’re building in our black and urban churches in South Bend!

Yesterday leaders met with Portage Township Trustee, Jason Critchlow, to follow up on his commitment to work with We Make Indiana leaders to put together a safe housing task force to study what code enforcement policies are working in other cities in Indiana and bring back policy recommendations to our city.

That’s what it takes-ordinary people rolling up their sleeves building power and doing the work!

"That’s why We Make Indiana is proposing a fair share agreement with Microsoft. A fair share agreement has two parts — a fair share fund and binding environmental protections. The proposal is based on a simple principle: if a project will benefit from our community’s land, infrastructure, workforce and public services, it should make an ongoing proportional contribution to the well-being of the people who live here."

Indiana taxpayers are now helping subsidize a coal plant tied to growing data center energy demand.

The Trump administration announced federal funding for coal infrastructure, including support for Indiana's Merom Generating Station, a plant increasingly connected to the electricity needs of large-scale data centers. As AI and data center development accelerate, we are being asked to bear the costs through higher energy demand, public subsidies, and environmental impacts.

This is exactly why local communities need a seat at the table when major data center projects are proposed. If public resources, energy infrastructure, and our environment are on the line, we deserve transparency, accountability, and a real voice in the decisions that shape our future.

A western Indiana coal-fired power plant will received $27 million in federal subsidies following Trump announcement.

Beacon Heights Apartments on South Bend's northwest edge will receive their first major investment since their construction in the 1940s. Federal tax credits will keep the new owners from raising rents to pay for the $50 million renovation.
