FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Central Indiana AFL-CIO does not support the recent proposal from the Indianapolis City-County Council to introduce Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) for Indianapolis students.

ESAs are anti-public and have historically diverted public funds and been misused and mismanaged. ESAs will aid in the continued attack of our public schools which allow teachers the right to unionize, unlike non-public institutions. Therefore, this is not just an education issue, but a labor issue. We must protect the rights of all our city’s teachers and staff.

The Central Indiana AFL-CIO urges the Indianapolis City-County Council to vote against the ESA proposal. We also implore our affiliates and members to contact their City Councilor to express their lack of support for this proposal before Monday, March 3rd and show up on Tuesday, March 4th for the education committee meeting to make their voice heard.

To easily participate in this action, send your letter here: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/urgent-indianapolis-schools-at-risk-take-action-now

The Central Indiana AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with our local teachers, our public schools, and our communities. Fully funded, fully public.
