Education Bridge is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organisation that runs a network of secondary schools in South Sudan, known as Greenbelt Academies.

We educate young people in South Sudan to become leaders who drive peace and development. South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. It's home to 11 million people from 64 different ethnic groups. Sadly, our last six (6) years of independence have been marked by violence & suffering from inter-ethnic conflict, fueled in part by stereotyping. Low literacy (27%) and ethnic segregation make it very difficult to challenge these stereotypes & often dehumanizing narratives. Education Bridge is addressing this by building a network of secondary schools aimed at providing quality education and increasing inter-ethnic interactions. We believe our diversity should be a source of pride & unity and not of contention.

Today, on Teachers' Day, we celebrate the dedicated educators who are turning hope into reality at Greenbelt Academies and across South Sudan.

At Education Bridge, we know that teachers are the bedrock of our mission: educating the next generation of peacemakers and transformational leaders for South Sudan. In a nation where decades of conflict have created one of the most acute education crises, leaving nearly 70% of children out of school, our teachers do much more than instruct—they build the foundation for peace, stability, and future development.

Through our signature teacher training program and the Alpha Teachers Network, Education Bridge is equipping more teachers to spark curiosity and confidence in every classroom. By training local graduates to become skilled, community-rooted educators, our program is already reaching over 2,000 pupils and reimagining primary school education.

As the world marked International Peace Day, we were reminded that lasting peace starts in the classroom, where mindsets are shaped and social values instilled.

At Education Bridge, our mission is rooted in educating a generation of ethical, educated leaders to drive peace and development. In South Sudan, decades of conflict have left millions of young people without access to learning. We believe that providing an excellent, inclusive education is the single most powerful way to break the cycle of conflict and poverty.

Through our network of Greenbelt Academies, we bring together young people from diverse backgrounds to learn, grow, and build lifelong friendships. By creating safe, dignified learning spaces, we are preparing the next generation of peacemakers and transformational leaders who will shape a peaceful, prosperous, and equitable South Sudan.

Our alumni continue to reflect our mission long after we prepare them to step into the real world.

At Education Bridge, we are committed to educating transformational leaders who will step into the world ready to build a peaceful, prosperous, and equitable South Sudan. Through our Greenbelt Academies, we are creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and become the peacemakers and transformational leaders South Sudan needs.

One of those young people is Simon Mayen Machar Ariik, an alumnus of Greenbelt Academy in Bor, Jonglei State.

Simon is currently a scholar under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the African Leadership University. He recently completed the Trevor Noah Foundation’s Education for Change Makers (ECM) Cohort 3, joining emerging leaders from across Africa for four weeks of leadership development, Human-Centred Design, teamwork, and problem-solving.

His experience is a reflection of what we hope to build through our schools: young South Sudanese who carry their education beyond the classroom and use it to lead, collaborate, solve problems, and contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous country.|

We are proud to see Simon continuing that journey. This is what “Educating the Future of South Sudan” looks like in motion.

Celebrating leadership that gives back

We’re proud to celebrate our executive director, Ngor Majak Anyieth, for receiving the Alumni Impact Award from the African Leadership Academy(ALA).

The award recognises alumni who continue to contribute to their communities and create meaningful impact long after their time at ALA. For Majak, that commitment has taken shape through Education Bridge, where he is working to expand access to quality education and develop the next generation of peacemakers and transformational leaders in South Sudan.

His own journey is a reminder of what education can make possible. From growing up in South Sudan and later living in Kakuma Refugee Camp, to receiving scholarships to study at ALA and the University of Notre Dame, education opened doors that changed the course of his life.

Today, he is working to create those same opportunities for young people back home through Greenbelt Academies, the network of schools operated by Education Bridge.

Congratulations, Majak, on this well-deserved recognition. Your journey reflects what we believe at Education Bridge: education can help build a peaceful, prosperous, and equitable South Sudan.

Peace through Education

One of Education Bridge’s founding pillars is to educate a generation of peacemakers for South Sudan. We continue to invest in young people, equipping them with the knowledge, leadership, and values they need to advance peace and economic growth in their communities. This vision comes to life through the achievements of our students and alumni.

Kur Peter Thon is one such example.

Earlier this month, Kur joined 49 other young leaders from 39 countries for the Youth Leader Fund (YLF) Study Visit 2026 in Japan, an initiative of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), implemented in partnership with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) . The programme brought together young leaders to deepen their understanding of nuclear disarmament, peacebuilding, and global security through engagements with atomic bomb survivors (Hibakusha), United Nations officials, government leaders, peace advocates, scholars, and local communities in Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

During the study visit, Kur had the honour of delivering the opening youth remarks in Nagasaki and, alongside a fellow participant, and the closing remarks at the Youth Conference in Hiroshima.

Last week, Kur also graduated from The African Leadership University with a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership. His journey reflects what Education Bridge exists to do: educate young people who lead with integrity, build peace across communities, and create lasting change.

We celebrate Kur’s achievements and remain committed to supporting our alumni wherever life takes them. Every graduate who returns to serve their community brings us one step closer to our vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and equitable South Sudan.

The Education Bridge fraternity proudly celebrates ADUOT MALUETH ADUOT JOK, one of the first graduates from Greenbelt Academy Bor’s Class of 2019, who has now completed a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Ashesi University in Ghana, graduating with the Class of 2026.

From the classrooms of Greenbelt Academy to earning a degree abroad, Aduot’s journey reflects the power of access to quality education, mentorship, and strong foundations. It is a reminder that leadership development does not begin at university, it begins in schools that nurture confidence, discipline, curiosity, and purpose.

At Education Bridge, through the Greenbelt Academy group of schools, we remain committed to building these foundations for the next generation of South Sudanese leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

South Sudan faces severe challenges in foundational literacy and numeracy, with UNICEF estimating the literacy rates for grade 2 and 3 just about 10% in the country. Pupils struggle in later grades, leading to a 14-37% primary school completion rate.

Through the Alpha Teachers Network, Education Bridge is training young teachers to improve foundational literacy and numeracy in South Sudan’s primary schools.

When pupils learn to read well, and are taught at the right level they learn better, leading to better learning outcomes.
