The rest of the story behind the creation of VetsRoll.org Veterans Honor Trip to Washington DC.
~~~~~~~
One of the inspirations behind the start of our VetsRoll.org Veterans Honor Trip to Washington DC program nearly 15-years ago, was our SIL Cindy Finnegan, married to our brother Tim Finnegan.
Cindy was a tireless worker, never slept and was always pushing himself to excel.
Excel she did, as a Vietnam Era nurse, rising to the rank of Army Major, then being forced into retirement after being unable to overcome her battle with MS.
Although we have no doubt she would have made Colonel, she refused to give up and stayed involved in numerous military organizations and events up until the very end.
Cindy was called home on December 23, 2003 (Christmas Eve), 20-years ago today.
Justyn Finnegan and I attended her officer’s burial at Arlington National Cemetery in May of 2004, just before the opening of the beautiful WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. An officer’s burial is something to behold at ANC and eventually led to us forming our program in 2010.
Rest In Peace Cynthia Finnegan and thank you for what you did for all those troops so many years ago.
~~~~~~
Our great friend George Kerestes, the renown NPS Greeter at the WWII Memorial has for nearly a decade made it his mission to place a wreath on Cindy’s headstone on each Wreaths Across America Day.
Thank you George!!
