Safe Haven of Iowa County Safe Haven is a 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of Safe Haven is to rescue, protect, rehabilitate and find good homes for dogs and cats in Iowa County.

Wow! What an incredible event last night at Raising Cane's! 🐾❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, to the amazing volunteers who made it all possible, and to the wonderful employees at Raising Cane’s for welcoming us and our pups!

Our four-legged guests had a blast on their field trip, and we learned a little more about each of them along the way:

🐾 Sully just wanted to enjoy the A/C and spent the evening searching for every possible entrance to get inside!

🐾 Coral probably wouldn’t make the best door greeter — she decided about 80% of the people she met just weren’t her type. 😂

🐾 Knight wanted to be everyone’s friend… except Sully’s. 😅

🐾 Honey took home the award for Most Well-Behaved and loved socializing with Coral, Sully, and Knight!

These outings are so valuable because they help us learn more about our dogs outside of the shelter environment. Plus, they give our residents a chance to enjoy a fun break from shelter life.

It’s a family affair in our room filled with gorgeous tabby kittens. There are 4 younger kittens and 4 older kittens. The older kittens are Willie,Waylon, Winona and Reba. (Reba is reserved)
What’s interesting is to observe the relationships and social dynamics. Reba is a welcoming hostess and Willie likes to keep tabs on everyone, making sure all is well. Waylon takes about 2 minutes to present himself and then melts when he meets you. Winona is keeping to herself, she is wearing a t-shirt for a couple of days because the youngsters were attempting to nurse and she’s not their mama!

☀️ Summer adventures are more fun when everyone stays safe including our pets!

While most pet owners know to watch for heat, Iowa summers bring several lesser-known hazards, including foxtails, ticks, blue-green algae, hot pavement, wildlife encounters, and backyard BBQ foods that can be dangerous for pets.

This could be Tammy, it could be Merle, and we really can identify by scanning their microchips, but not from pictures at home.
The point is we have a merry band of 8 delightful, gorgeous, sweet tabby kittens.

🐶🐾😻Don’t want to cook supper TONIGHT? Tired of dishes and cleanup? No problem…. we have you covered! Tonight is our fundraising event in Coralville at Raising Cane’s - and we would LOVE to see some of our Safe Haven friends and supporters!

✴️ So join us at Raising Cane’s TONIGHT from 4pm to 10pm for “PUPS ON THE PATIO”! We will also have a few volunteers there on the patio tonight with adoptable dogs from 5:00 to 7:00, so stop on over and say “HI” , and grab some supper too! 👍

Raising Cane’s will be donating 15% of net sales for all customers during that 4pm to 10pm timeframe that mention the Safe Haven fundraiser in the drive thru, dine in, takeout, and mobile/online ordering (use code RCFUND96)!

Coral is ready for her second chance! 💙🐾

Found as a stray last fall, this beautiful 1.5-year-old Hound/Shepherd mix is still discovering just how wonderful life can be.

Coral may be a little shy at first, but underneath that reserved exterior is a sweet and affectionate girl who is learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. With a family willing to give her time, patience, and plenty of love, we know she’ll continue to grow into the incredible companion she’s meant to be. ❤️

She also enjoys playing with other dogs and would love a furry friend to romp around with! 🐶💕

It only took a minute to talk Alli Star down from her ledge. Which makes Alli Star a brave cat as she has just recently returned to Safe Haven.
Alli Star had been urinating outside the litter box. After ruling out a medical cause it was decided Alli Star was likely stressed by the other cats in the home.
Alli Star is already greeting visitors with a single, sweet meow. She’s curious and interested in meeting new friends.
