The organization has earned several championships over the years and has graduated wrestlers to the Junior High and High School programs that have gone on to place and win at the Pennsylvania State level. SAYWA belongs to Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL), a highly competitive and organized league that includes local teams such as Perkiomen Valley, Upper Perkiomen, Methacton and North Penn and
teams as far as West Chester, Media, Kennett and Pennsbury. In all, there are 43 teams in the league. We typically compete with 2 or 3 other teams every Saturday and we pair the kids by weight and experience (Madison style). SAYWA averages 100 wrestlers each season. Wrestlers participating in ICWL events range in age from K to 6th grade. Season practices begin in November. League meets begin in early January and run through mid February. ICWL meets are followed by league sanctioned tournaments for all levels of wrestlers. Several tournaments are included in a SAYWA season and include SAYWA’s own annual Big Red Tournament which was established in 1990. Also, we try to enter dual tournaments so our more experienced wrestlers appreciate the opportunity to wrestle as a team with a team score. The official season end is late February. Practices continue in the post season to as late as April or as long as wrestlers are interested in post season tournaments or simply want to sharpen their skills!
