The daily work with a rescue dog is creating real shifts inside Monterey County Juvenile Hall.

In UnChained’s Canines Teaching Compassion program, justice-involved youth trainers build patience and reliability one moment at a time.

They start to see how their consistent presence actually matters to another living being.

That growing sense of responsibility carries into how they show up with people too.

These small changes ripple throughout the entire youth facility and set the stage for the next group of youth later this year.

Gigi’s graduation was a milestone.

Now she starts every morning at Monterey County Juvenile Hall.

The resident youth show up consistently for her with patience because she depends on them, and that consistency teaches them they can be counted on.

In UnChained’s Canines Teaching Compassion program, these small daily moments contribute to helping our justice-involved youth trainers reintegrate back into society effectively.

Real change starts when we give each other room to grow.

In UnChained’s Canines Teaching Compassion program, justice-involved youth trainers learn to offer their dog cues.

They discover how patience works and that true connection needs safety first.

Those skills travel with them back into our Central Coast communities.

The patience and safety practiced with dogs help them show up more calmly and responsibly in everyday life.

Building trust starts in safe shared spaces.

We create that room for justice-involved youth and rescue dogs to meet.

When Gigi’s trainers offer a cue they practice the patience needed for real human connection.

They learn that safety and time let real communication happen.

Those skills travel back into our Central Coast neighborhoods.

They show up as more responsibility in everyday choices.

Thank you for supporting our mission. 🐾

Dog’s don’t care about your past.

They only respond to who you are in this moment, making them the perfect mirror. 🐺

One student recently explained that learning to understand Gigi’s body language helped him understand his own emotions and the impact of his interactions better. ❤️‍🩹

That kind of profound reflection stays with our youth and creates lasting change across our entire community. 💞
