Miner’s Motel Gets a New Name: Introducing Lindahn Landing
Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County is proud to announce that the former Miner’s Motel, currently being transformed into 20 permanent affordable rental homes, will be known as Lindahn Landing.
The name honors longtime Habitat volunteer Roger Lindahn, whose quiet leadership, generosity and unwavering commitment to serving others have helped shape Habitat’s work and strengthen our community for more than 15 years.
Why the Name Lindahn Landing Is So Meaningful…

When I thought about what to name this community, I kept coming back to our volunteer Roger.
For more than 15 years, Roger has been the quiet anchor behind so much of what Habitat has accomplished. And when we call Roger a volunteer, that word hardly captures the level of commitment he has given. For years, he has donated four days a week—and often five days a week during major projects like the transformation of the Miner’s Motel—giving thousands upon thousands of hours of his time to Habitat and the families we serve. He has helped physically build nearly every Habitat home we have constructed, completed countless repairs for local families and never hesitated to step in whenever a family, staff member, volunteer or project needed help.
Beyond Habitat’s homes and repair programs, Roger has generously shared his time and talents throughout our community, supporting efforts such as the Shower Bus, Veterans Memorial projects, Cover’s Touch-a-Truck and the Construction Collaborative, where he helps mentor and inspire future generations of contractors and skilled tradespeople.
Over the years, it has become an ongoing joke between the two of us that Roger is always going to retire after “just one more project.” Every year, he tells me this is his last one—and every year, I somehow find him another project because the staff and I are not quite ready to let him go.
When we see Roger’s truck pull in, there is a collective exhale. Whatever challenge is in front of us suddenly feels more manageable—not because we expect Roger to solve everything, but because we know we no longer have to carry it alone. After relying on someone for so many years, their presence becomes part of the foundation beneath you. Roger brings a steadiness that is difficult to put into words and impossible to replace. I don’t think he fully realizes what that has meant to our staff, our families or to me.
He is often the first to step up and the last to seek recognition. In fact, if Roger were writing this announcement, there is no chance he would approve of naming a community after himself. Fortunately, Roger wasn’t in charge of this decision.
Roger represents the very heart of who we are as an organization. That is why Lindahn Landing felt so fitting. A landing is a place where people arrive, find stability, put down roots and begin a new chapter. For years, Roger has helped create those opportunities for others. Just as Roger has been an anchor for Habitat, Lindahn Landing will be a place where people can find a foundation from which to move forward with hope and dignity.
The transformation of the former Miner’s Motel into Lindahn Landing represents a significant investment in preserving and creating affordable housing opportunities in Tuolumne County. Once complete, the community will provide 20 permanent rental homes for local individuals and families.
For Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County, the name Lindahn Landing is more than a tribute to one volunteer. It reflects the values Roger has exemplified for more than 15 years: service, quiet dedication, generosity and the belief that strong communities are built by people who consistently show up, day after day, to help others succeed.
