What a wonderful three days at Eaton Hill Buggin' Out Summer Camp! 🐞🐜. Campers explored, learned, created, and discovered just how fascinating the tiny creatures around us can be.

A special thank you to The Mad Mouse Zoodio for bringing incredible invertebrates for our campers to see up close. Dr. Carey gave us all a microscopic view of insects while sharing the excitement of bug catching. Mr. Dunn led a fun and educational hike that helped campers explore the complex world of ants.

We are so grateful to our presenters, volunteers, and campers who helped make this camp such a success.

Join us in witnessing the bloom a decade in the making. The century plants that adorn the hill have also become a gathering place for hummingbirds, drawn to their nectar-rich flowers. The Agave americana, or century plant, derives its name from the myth that the plant blossoms every hundred years, though in actuality the plant blooms near the end of its life, at 10 to 30 years. The century plant looms quite large, with leaves that can reach 6 feet in height and 10 feet in diameter. In bloom, the century plant can reach 30 feet. Because the century plant is monocarpic, it directs all its energy toward the growth of its magnificent flowering stalk. After blooming, the plant dies, leaving behind offsets at its base to start the cycle anew.
