125 Years of History, Service & Recognition
As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club hosted a special brunch Sonoma Grille welcoming Congressman Mike Thompson and Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry to commemorate this historic milestone.
Founded on September 21, 1901, the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club has played an important role in shaping the civic, cultural, and charitable history of Sonoma Valley.
The club received two distinguished recognitions:
A California State Assembly Resolution, presented by Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, recognizing 125 years of community service, leadership, and contributions to Sonoma Valley.
A Congressional Record tribute, presented by Congressman Mike Thompson, honoring the club’s enduring legacy and its many contributions to the community.
Among the historical achievements recognized were the club’s instrumental role in bringing Sonoma’s first free library to the community and securing a Carnegie library. Also highlighted was the club’s historic clubhouse, designed by architect Maynard Jones and opened on September 15, 1916. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the clubhouse stands as a lasting symbol of the club’s commitment to preserving Sonoma’s architectural heritage and serving the community.
These recognitions honor the generations of women whose vision, determination, and dedication helped shape Sonoma Valley over the past 125 years.
