Roger is one of our blind and senior residents.

He came from a ranch where sheep are raised for meat. Due to a head injury at the ranch, Roger suffered neurological damage and suddenly went blind. As is the case with most animals considered "livestock" he was no longer deemed useful and was in danger of being discarded.

Thankfully, Roger came to Charlie's Acres, where he is valued just for being himself. He was therefore safe to live his life and form bonds with fellow sheep along with his many caregivers.

Come visit Roger by booking a tour of our sanctuary. Go to the link in the bio or to charliesacres.org/visit to make that happen. Thank you.

Bucky is one of our senior sheep residents who needs a lot of special care.
He has a heart condition, arthritis, and he might get tired easily, but to us, he has never been more beautiful. He is one of the lucky few who got to live a full life.

That is the impact of sanctuary. Creating a world where sentient beings are no longer exploited and can live their whole lives in peace.

All of YOU allow us to do this life-saving work. Please help us keep this work going by visiting charliesacres.org/support or by going to the link in the bio. We, and Bucky, thank you.

Portraits of our senior residents.
Each of them was born into industries that saw them as commodities instead of the unique individuals they truly are, and would have exploited them for everything they had. By some miracle, they were rescued and made their way to us. Here, they were finally met with kindness, where they are cared for, cherished, and able to live out their full natural lives in peace. Here, they are seen not as commodities, but as someone.

We hope that one day no one will need rescuing from animal agriculture because the world will have long recognized such suffering as cruel and unnecessary.

The individuals in the photos are as follows: Seymour, Bucky, P***y, Louie, Delilah, Barbara, Robert, Florence, Mei Li, and Tiffany.

Help us in wishing Barbara and Karen a happy adoptiversary!

These two remarkable ladies were rescued from a dairy farm in Kings County, CA, where they faced severe neglect following the farm's financial collapse. In order to cut costs, the farmers failed to provide the sheep with essential food and care while still milking them. Tragically, many members of the flock perished from starvation, and some of the surviving sheep resorted to eating each other's wool in a desperate attempt to avoid the same fate. Thanks to , they were rescued and brought to a new life at Charlie's Acres.

Now, seven years later, these ladies are established members of their flock, spending their days grazing in a clean and spacious pasture. They are free to be shy or friendly, seeking attention from their favorite humans for head scratches and treats. We're grateful to provide them with a pampered life without any expectations in return.

That is the power of sanctuary, and with your support, we can continue this life-saving work. Go to charliesacres.org/support or to the link in the bio to see all the ways to support our mission.

Thanks to all the rain we have been having a big flower bloom has come to Charlie's Acres.

Blanche has had an especially great time frolicking in her yard. Take a lesson from Blanche and frolic every once in a while. After all, joy is a form of resistance.

Keeping track of the health of 150 rescued individuals is no easy task.
But our animal care team works hard to make sure our residents eat well balanced and healthy meals every single day. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Come and visit these happy individuals by booking a tour of the sanctuary. Go to the link in the bio or to charliesacres.org/visit to book today.

Betty heard you were having a hard time lately, so she brought you this rock.

Let her know you got it by typing the rock emoji in the comments.

Betty is one of our pig residents who loves to decorate her home with rocks. If she spots a nice one, she either brings it inside or gives it to one of her favorite people. It is an honor to receive a Betty rock.

Delilah, our large Pekin duck, celebrated her 9th birthday with friends.

Pekin ducks are the breed most commonly raised for rapid meat production. Because of the fast growth and large size they are bred for, many suffer from painful health issues, including heart problems and leg and joint challenges. Even when rescued, they often do not live long lives.

Now at the age of 9, Delilah has far exceeded the average life expectancy, a testament to the extensive love and care she has received. This illustrates the incredible impact of sanctuary.
