I'm out in Cochise County today contributing to the effort to set up a new STEAM (Science, Thechnology, Engineering, Art, and Math) garden for the benefit of all of the students in Cochise County. Today is the gravel spreading party, and it ROCKS! Pun totally intended.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!

JLG was founded on the premise that small actions can have a positive contribution; and in the case of our newly pruned fig tree, can actually yield big results. We believe this variety is a Brown Turkey fig. I'm actually not in love with this fig variety, so I'm going to have to figure out what to do with them all😊

Gardening can feel like a big commitment to newcomers, or people who just want to dabble a little bit at this time. If you are local to Arizona and have been contemplating trying to plant SOMETHING, check out the Free Plant N Garden Stands Foundation (https://www.freeplantngardenstands.org/). They also have a Facebook group that has a map of all of the free stands around Arizona where you can take a plant/seed pack AND give back to the community when you've got something to share. It's a low-risk way to get started and plant something - every bit counts!

Sometimes life presents you with a new journey, and you gotta buckle your seat belt and enjoy the ride. We've been social media silent for a while because we moved AND our family grew again!

Our new property has a lot more room for expanding plant propagating, and also serves as an ongoing experiment for growing practices. Plus the views ain't half bad 😁

We'll be getting into a new norm for social media posts. But for today, our last photo shows a good way to get multiple uses out of some water and some time. Our kids LOVE playing with their water table and by setti g it up near a tree that needs to be watered anyways we're able to multi-purpose the water. While the kids play, I'm able to do daily garden/orchard tasks nearby. Good times for all!

We are extremely excited to be starting a project with Rillito Center, a special needs school serving the Amphitheater School District in Tucson, to set up the foundations of a horticultural therapy program at the school. Phase 1 of the project is a kickoff event to activate the school community and we are asking for donations of POTS. 🤗

Specifically, we are looking for the plain black garden pots you typically get when buying plants at a store/nursery. We are looking for pots in the 2 or 3 gallon size. If you live in southern Arizona and have any 2-3 gallon pots in good condition and would like to donate them, please message us. The project team has a surprise in store for the pots, and we’ll post an update with the outcomes.
