Nuya' Formerly Mil Milagros, Inc. While there is tremendous need in our communities, there is also a reservoir of untapped potential.

Nuya' fosters Indigenous women’s leadership through training and implementation of life-changing community programs in rural Guatemala. Mil Milagros is dedicated to supporting Indigenous Maya leaders in Santa Lucía Utatlán, Sololá, Guatemala as they build stronger, healthier communities through innovative programs in leadership, education, health and hygiene, and early childhood development. We be

lieve that when children and families in rural Guatemala have access to parenting and early childhood support, clean water, quality education, nutritious food, when they can make informed decisions about their health and rely on consistent, dedicated local leaders—whole communities can thrive. The populations we serve are often burdened by the multidimensional causes and effects of extreme poverty: historical discrimination and structural inequality, lack of access to basic social services and education, malnutrition and illness. We believe that when parents, children, and teachers are given the resources, training, and opportunity to create change, they can lead their communities toward a brighter future. Our mission is to identify, train, and provide opportunities for these leaders to create lasting change through programs that improve quality of life in the communities where they live. Mil Milagros is committed to the dignity and agency of the historically marginalized Indigenous Maya and guided by the evolving needs of their communities in Santa Lucía. The majority of our staff are Indigenous leaders who live in these same communities, and we strive to provide resources, knowledge, and training as they respond to those needs and make changes that benefit their own communities long-term. We prioritize their leadership, capacity, and professional growth in everything we do. This Friday, we’re officially launching the Traveling Library Bus!

Soon, the bus will begin visiting schools throughout Sololá, bringing stories to children who have limited access to books.

You can help kids in Guatemala learn to read by making a gift:

$10 can provide school supplies for one student

$25 can help the bus make one school visit

During the month of June all donations are matched: https://givenuya.raiselysite.com/

And don’t forget to join us on Facebook on Friday at 11AM EST for a livestream of our official launch ceremony and celebration with our schools and communities!

For the past year, our staff have been hard at work giving the traveling library a new home: making sure it had shelves, problem-solving designs, ensuring we have enough books for each age group, and making it look welcoming and fun.

We are so excited to launch the Traveling Library Bus and our spring fundraising campaign next week, which will help ensure that our Education program can continue to grow and reach new readers in 2027.

We can’t wait to show you more next week!

¡Felicidades Rosalba!

For our final feature, we’ll hear from Reina, who told us more about her greatest achievements as a mom:

“Having the opportunity to be a mother to three children and seeing them grow up healthy. That they have my love as their mother and the attention they need, I’m happy for that. And for being a mother who looks for support to give my children what they need.”

Gracias a todas las mamás de nuestras comunidades y de nuestra comunidad más grande global por todo lo que hacen para apoyar a sus hijos y apoyar a otras madres, sean vecinas o al otro lado del mundo!

We’re continuing our series featuring mothers in our Maternal and Child Wellness Program. Today we’re featuring Jennifer, a mother in her second year of the MCW program. We asked her what she’s most proud of about being a mom:

“I’m proud to be a woman––in Women’s Health I learned to take care of myself and make plans. And I’m proud that my son speaks two languages, Spanish and Kiche'. I think it’s very important for him to know both.”
