🚨Humanize the Headset🚨

Introducing Dispatcher Murray who has been a 911 Dispatcher for a year! Before beginning her career in dispatch, she spent an incredible 11 years working with seniors throughout Morris and Somerset Counties, serving as an Activity Director and Senior Wellness Center Manager.

After more than a decade of making a difference in the lives of others, she decided it was time for a big change — and took the leap into the world of 911 dispatch! While it was a completely new path, Dispatcher Murray’s years of working with people, caring for others, and creating meaningful connections have helped make her the dispatcher she is today.

When she’s not behind the console, you can usually find her with a good book in hand — especially if it’s a mystery! Dispatcher Murray also enjoys solving puzzles and getting creative with crafts like crocheting and sewing. But above all, she loves spending quality time with her friends and family, making memories with the people who mean the most to her.

Our Local 497 President recently had the opportunity to sit down with Ian Bick on the Locked In Podcast to talk about what happens behind the scenes of 911. The challenges, responsibilities, and realities of our profession that often goes unseen.

While CTO Barrett may have been the one behind the microphone, the experiences he shared reflect the dedication of the incredible dispatchers at Somerset County and the thousands of 911 professionals across the country who show up every day and night to serve their communities.

For nearly two years, Dispatcher Sullivan has been an important part of our 911 dispatch team, answering the call when our community needs help the most. His dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving others make him a valued member of our team.

When he’s not behind the console, you can usually find him staying active and enjoying the things he loves. Dispatcher Sullivan enjoys playing basketball, bowling, and attending sporting events.

Outside of work, family and friends are a huge part of his life. He loves spending time with the people who mean the most to him and making memories with them.

His commitment to service doesn’t stop at the dispatch center. Dispatcher Sullivan is also a Boy Scout and a proud alumni of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, experiences that reflect his dedication to leadership, friendship, and serving others.

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on 911 Dispatcher Quinn who has been serving behind the scenes for almost 2 years!

When he’s not answering calls and helping those in need, he enjoys spending time outdoors, making memories with family and friends, building LEGOs, and getting lost in a good book.

Dispatcher Quinn’s dedication to service doesn’t stop at the communication center. Outside of his career, he is also an Eagle Scout — a tremendous accomplishment that reflects his commitment, leadership, perseverance, and willingness to serve others.

Whether he’s behind the console, out enjoying the great outdoors, or spending time with the people he cares about, he brings the same dedication and character to everything he does.

After more than three decades of service, it’s time to sign off.

Today we recognize the retirement of Dispatcher Kenny “Diesel” Degutis, Badge Number 1.

Since joining Somerset County in 1990, Diesel has been a constant behind the headset, serving not only as a dispatcher but also as a Communications Training Officer, helping shape generations of dispatchers who followed in his footsteps. His experience, knowledge, and willingness to teach have left a lasting mark on our communications center.

Badge Number 1 has seen this profession evolve through decades of change, but one thing remained the same, his commitment to serving the residents and first responders of Somerset County.

On behalf of FMBA Local 497, thank you for your 36 years of dedication, mentorship, and service. You’ve more than earned the right to hang up the headset, sleep through the tones, and let someone else answer the phone for a change.

Congratulations on your retirement, Diesel. Wishing you nothing but health, happiness, and many years of well-deserved relaxation.

For the past 2 years, Dispatcher DiPillo has been one of the calm voices behind the headset, helping others through some of their most difficult moments. Whether it’s answering the next call or supporting first responders in the field, she’s always ready to make a difference.

When she’s off the clock, you’ll most likely find Dispatcher DiPillo making memories with her family, friends, and boyfriend, singing along at a country concert, getting creative with a new craft project, or watching and playing soccer. And if there’s an animal nearby, you can bet it’s getting some love—she never passes up the chance to stop and pet every furry friend she meets!

Her compassion, positive attitude, and dedication shine both in and out of the communications center.

After months of learning the job, night shifts, surviving and thriving within the controlled chaos, and proving she can keep her cool when everyone else is losing theirs, Lansing has officially cut the cord.

The good news? No more trainer sitting next to you.

The bad news? Now you’re expected to have ALL of the answers.

In addition to being an accomplished EMT, he recently reached another exciting milestone by becoming an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Instructor for Somerset County. His commitment to learning, growing, and sharing his knowledge with others reflects the professionalism and passion he brings to the job every day. By helping train the next generation of dispatchers, he’s making an impact that extends far beyond the headset.

When hes off the clock, you’ll likely find Dispatcher May spending time with family and friends, gaming, or working on his car. Whether he’s under the hood, behind a controller, or making memories with the people closest to him, he values making the most of his time outside of work.
