The August fresh produce deliveries are currently scheduled for August 20, from 11 am–3 pm. Participants must be available during the delivery window and willing to sign a confirmation of receipt at the time of delivery.

We are also accepting referrals for the September delivery date, taking place on September 17 from 11 am–3 pm.

We had a great time hosting a celebratory summer barbecue with our friends at the Somerville Council on Aging’s Ralph and Jenny Center this week! The SCES nutrition team supplied a tasty meal and enjoyed catching up with all who came.

We thank Mayor Jake Wilson for joining us, as well as Carl Williams with U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s office! It was great to spend time together in our community.

SCES partners with Somerville Council on Aging to host congregate meals throughout the month. To find our monthly congregate meal menus, please visit www.eldercare.org/congregate-meal-sites.

It’s National Health Center Week, and we are proud to celebrate all the health centers that provide equitable and accessible care!

We are grateful to work alongside Cambridge Health Alliance who serves as important resource for our community and helps promote health equity. For decades, community health centers like CHA have worked to make high-quality care available to all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

We’d also like to give a special shoutout to the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers for their dedication to serving and advocating for community health centers across the Commonwealth – and the 1,000,000+ patients they serve each year.

Thank you, CHA and Mass League!

July is Social Wellness Month, the perfect time to get involved with your community!

Social Wellness Month recognizes the importance of nurturing one’s relationships. It’s about giving and receiving social support, however that shows up for you and others.

At SCES, we recognize the importance of staying connected to our communities, especially as we age. We are grateful for our supportive housing partners at the Somerville Housing Authority and Cambridge Housing Authority! SCES staff partner with the housing authorities and five housing sites across Somerville and Cambridge to coordinate services, facilitate programming and promote social connection for residents.

The landmark act prohibits discrimination by local and state governments, protects people with disabilities from discrimination at work and ensures equal access to healthcare, social services, transportation and telecommunications.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, also known as National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month! At SCES, we recognize that racism, stigma and other systemic barriers can make it difficult for BIPOC communities to access mental and behavioral health care.

We are proud to offer free behavioral health services to eligible community members through our Behavioral Health Outreach for Aging Populations (BHOAP) program. The BHOAP team helps address unmet behavioral health needs of older adults through in-home counseling and case management support. BHOAP social workers can help reduce social isolation, improve medical care coordination and increase access to behavioral health and wellness supports.
