This week, Natasha Wright kicked off our Leader in Training Orientation, and we’re still glowing from the energy, talent, and heart our youth leaders brought into the space.

These teens, many of whom are former Explorers themselves, showed up prepared, thoughtful, and ready to step into their roles as counselors and mentors for the next generation of Boston Explorers.

HUGE shoutout to our new friend Ian at the Center for Healing and Justice Through Sport for leading a powerful group training that centered trust-building, youth connection, and emotional safety. Through engaging, hands-on activities, our LITs practiced the art of building relationships with kids in a way that is rooted in care and connection.

The vibe was nothing short of electric.

This is one of Someone Else’s Child’s incredibly impactful programs: a space where teens receive real job training, gain tools for life, explore the city, and learn how to lead with empathy. And they come from all over Boston to be part of it! Bringing diverse experiences, ideas, and joy. Wow, we are so proud of this crew..

We can’t wait to see these young leaders shine this summer and continue to share their summer success! ☀️💛 We invite you to share in the journey!

Join us in highlighting was something very special. 💙 💛

Our Youth Philanthropy program recently wrapped up with a meaningful intergenerational dinner - an evening filled with deep conversations, powerful connections, and a true celebration of our young leaders.

Our youth philanthropists spent this year diving into social issues, rethinking philanthropy, and grappling with big questions: How do nonprofits measure real impact? How do budgets and numbers tell a story? How do we ensure funding reaches the organizations making the deepest impact? They explored the power of site “visits” and learned firsthand how funding decisions shape communities.

One of the youth said, “we learned that it’s not just about what we think the community needs but listening to the community to find out what really is needed”.

At our closing dinner, invited guests brought their wisdom, networks, and insights to the table, answering bold and thoughtful questions from our young people. The exchange was honest, inspiring, and a testament to the power of youth leadership in philanthropy.

Congratulations to our incredible Youth Philanthropists: Brianna, Kaiden, Javier, Virginia, Dai’Za, Alex, Edwin, Cassian, and Rashell!

And to the five organizations they awarded a total of $20K in funding: MIStudentsDream (Detroit), Simba’s Footprints (Tanzania), ASCATED (Guatemala), Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust (Lowell, MA), and YouthUnite (Cleveland).

We had the pleasure of attending the annual Girls Inc. luncheon this morning and it was nothing short of incredibly inspirational. From the heartfelt speeches from Girls Inc. CEO Natalie Martinez to the beautiful voices of the Girls Inc. “muffins”, to the incredibly motivating speeches by the youth themselves, we are so proud to support such a phenomenal organization. As we were reminded today, Girls Inc. has been fostering growth, and making a difference in young girls’ lives for 83 years! We wish all of the girls the best, and send good luck and congratulations to the graduating seniors!

A huge thank you to Mike Christian, Diane Christian, Vetto Casado, Chris Harris, Letia Larock, and Larry Wallach for being part of this evening, listening to our youth, and opening doors for them. Your presence made a difference. And a special shoutout to Natasha Wright for her leadership and dedication to making this program so impactful.

Introducing: Mission Highlights! 🤩

We’re excited to launch Mission Highlights, a new series where we shine a light on the incredible organizations, special events, and unique collaborations that bring Someone Else’s Child’s mission to life.

Our work is rooted in partnership, and we believe wholeheartedly in creating opportunities for young people by bringing together the right partners, resources, and ideas.

For our first feature, we’re celebrating TWO amazing partners: Amal Alliance and The Neighborhood Villages! These organizations are transforming access to education by bringing learning buses - mobile learning spaces - to children living in shelters. Their work ensures that every child, no matter their circumstances, has a safe space to learn and grow.

And now, their impact is reaching even further! Their efforts were recently highlighted in an ABC special 🎥✨ (Check it out here! https://www.wcvb.com/article/5-for-good-mobile-classroom-serves-young-children-living-in-shelters/63676920)

At Someone Else’s Child, we believe that the right connections can make all the difference. 💙💛

Stay tuned for more Mission Highlights as we continue to showcase the people and partnerships making a lasting impact!

Our story

While volunteering at a non-profit dedicated to disadvantaged children, Diane Christian was struck by the notion that so many kids in our society are in need. She realized that their needs are not always obvious and, as a consequence, often go unnoticed or are discounted.

In a time with so many challenging, global issues that demand our attention, it is easy to ignore the sometimes indiscernible needs of children. Although most of us feel sympathetic to kids in need, we often view them as someone else’s child. Diane felt that while they are someone else’s child, they are not someone else’s problem. We all have an obligation to provide for our community’s children. Because of that responsibility and this acute societal need, she established Someone Else’s Child Foundation in 1997.

Someone Else’s Child is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that supports children’s causes throughout the U.S. and in Africa.

Areas of focus include education, nutrition and health, mentoring, economic disparity, homelessness, and collaborative efforts with other child-focused non-profits. A primary objective of SEC is to inspire and encourage children to become involved in their community and to actively participate in helping other children.
