Somerville Homeless Coalition "Finding everyone a home"
Fighting homelessness, eviction and food insecurity for 40 years!

In 1985, our local community created the SHC in a grassroots effort to address the social crisis of homelessness. Neighbors, community activists, university students, faith-based leaders, business supporters, and city officials united to make the SHC's first endeavor -- the city's first emergency shelter for homeless adults -- a reality.

Big news! 🎉

Today, we’re thrilled to announce our newly relocated shelter for adults experiencing homelessness!

As homelessness continues to rise in Somerville, we are expanding essential services, establishing the first accessible shelter in the city and increasing the capacity from 16 to 26 beds. These customized facilities enhance the daily lives for our clients while prioritizing dignity and respect so our guests know they are invited to call the space their own for a while.

Please join us in celebrating another milestone! Keep that energy going and sign up to donate or join our Meal Train! Link in bio! 💙

With deep gratitude to Tufts University Community Relations and the Cummings Foundation for their generous support, we are honored to be one of 40 organizations across Boston, Grafton, Medford, and Somerville selected to receive funding through the Tufts Community Grants Program, made possible with matching support from the Cummings Foundation.

Your support helps us provide a more comfortable, dignified experience from our new Engagement Center and fuels our continued mission to find everyone a home. Thank you!

We’re OPEN! 🎉

At long last we’re thrilled to throw open the doors and welcome our clients to our new Summer Street Engagement Center!

Harnessing decades of experience, our new space is customized for a safer and more welcoming client experience while maintaining our same wraparound services focused on finding homes for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

We have reunited our team for the first time in years and expanded our Engagement Center, improving the experience and enhancing our services! Our optimized environment brings together our administrative offices, Eviction Prevention and Street Outreach teams, as well as Case Managers, along with our daytime, drop-in program; our Engagement Center.

Please join us in celebrating this milestone! If you’re feeling the love you are welcome to donate or sign up to join our Meal Train! Link in bio! 💙

athenahealth showed up to show off some serious kitchen skills; slicing & dicing with a smile and cooking delicious food for our neighbors at our Monday Night Meal!

From volunteering at Monday night Meals to building 400 baskets filled with stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and other ingredients for a yummy and full holiday meal last November; athenahealth has shown up for our community time and again offering generosity and a warm, dignified experience for our neighbors.

Thank you, athenahealth! 💙

We owe a thank you to members of the Somerville Community Baptist Church who donate food, their kitchen and their time to hand out food to their neighbors at our Monday Night Meals several times a year.

If you don’t already know: our food pantry, Project SOUP hosts meals nearly every Monday night. We’re grateful for support from local restaurants, and yet there is something especially heartwarming when neighbors directly uplift one another. This time it was chicken, corn, salad, potatoes, gravy, and cookies for dessert; classic, comfy cookout spread served indoors. Thank you SCBC! 💙

Feeling inspired? You can volunteer to cook, hand out meals, join our meal train or learn about our client’s needs at the link in bio!

Thank you Rotary Club of Somerville for supporting our clients at our East Somerville food pantry with a delivery of 135 POUNDS of food! 💙

We’re honored to receive the results of such a successful food drive - this is the single largest private donation of food our team at Project SOUP has received and it couldn't come at a better time!

We’re grateful that the Rotary Club of Somerville is there to help us ensure our neighbors can access enough food to lead a healthy, happy life.

Our neighbors at Republic Fitness just wrapped up a drive to benefit our clients at Project SOUP. Filling two boxes to the brim with hygiene items is no easy lift but they flexed some serious muscle and hit a new personal record! 🏋️‍♂️

All puns aside: thank you, Republic Fitness for making sure our neighbors visiting Project SOUP can do so with dignity and with confidence that their basic hygiene needs are met. 💙

At our food pantry Project SOUP, we always say we can’t do what we do without our community’s support! 💙

Closing out Volunteer Month with a party to show our appreciation seemed like the least we could do and it turned into a wonderful gift for everyone who came!

Special thanks to our SOUP team for making it all come together: the day-to-day operations, receiving deliveries, stocking shelves, delivering bags of groceries, and just showing up (even on the cold, rainy Monday morning deliveries!). You do it all and still find time to deliver a great party!
