As the temperatures are dipping into the 40’s most are turning on their Furnaces for the first time this season.

Please schedule or perform an annual tune up of your furnaces. This can catch many safety issues. You want your furnace working at peak performance. So, cleaning of burners, changing air filters, and adjusting flames may save you money. We recommend calling a professional to do this for you. One scheduled service call now can prevent you from the emergency repairs when it is freezing outside.

If you burn wood for heat, please have your chimneys or flue pipes cleaned yearly. A flue Fire can quickly spread into wood framing.

Test your detectors monthly. Both smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide detectors. Please check the dates of manufacturing of your detectors. Replace smoke detectors every 10 years and CO detectors every 7 years. When we change the clocks, please replace the batteries in all your detectors.

A majority of false alarms are due to expired detectors. It also seems like most false alarms take place in the middle of the night 🤷‍♂️

Evacuating when you have special transportation needs can be challenging. If you need help managing any part of your plan, including transportation, reach out to your local Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC). Some local emergency management offices maintain registers of older adults so they can be located and assisted quickly in a disaster.

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE TONIGHT
Flood Watch issued September 12 at 10:23AM EDT until September 13 at 4:00AM EDT by NWS State College PA
* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...A portion of central Pennsylvania, including the following
counties, Cambria, Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, McKean, Somerset and
Warren.

* WHEN...From 4 PM EDT this afternoon through 4 AM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water
crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Numerous heavy showers and thunderstorms may train across Central
PA tonight with confidence in greatest rainfall totals highest
across the Northwest Mountains and Laurel Highlands on PA.
Rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour could lead to local storm
totals in the range of 2-4 inches.
