Want to make a real difference for children and families in our community? ❤️

The Orphan Care Alliance (OCA) Gateway is building a network of caring volunteers, and we need your help to get it up and running!

This simple online portal connects local families with people who are willing to help meet everyday needs. Once you sign up, you can view requests and choose what you’d like to help with, no long-term commitment required.

🛏️ What kinds of needs?

Furniture for families reunifying with their children
Household essentials like dishes or bedding
Diapers, clothing, and other basic necessities

Sometimes, helping can be as easy as donating an item you already have at home, like an extra couch or bed frame.

Right now, we’re just a few volunteers away from launching:
👉 West Counties need 27 more volunteers
👉 East Counties need 30 more volunteers

Every small act of kindness helps strengthen families and support children right here in our community. Please consider joining, and feel free to share this post to help us spread the word! 💙

There are currently 8,812 children in out of home care across Kentucky. Right here in the Cumberland Service Region alone, there are 808 youth in care and only 171 DCBS foster homes available.

That gap matters.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, or even just wondered what it looks like, I’d love for you to join me for a virtual Foster Parent Informational Meeting on May 4th from 6 to 8 PM EST.

This is a no pressure space to learn, ask questions, and get real information about what it means to become a DCBS foster parent and how you can make a difference in a child’s life.

You can register through KYFACES.KY.GOV or reach out to me directly at [email protected] for more details.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to be willing to learn.

Hope to see you there 💙

Kentucky DCBS Foster Parents: We want to make sure your voice is heard! 💬

Foster parents are invited to join the upcoming Commissioner Foster Parent Listening Sessions. This is a valuable opportunity to share your experiences, provide feedback, and help shape the future of foster care in Kentucky.

Your insight matters, and your voice can make a difference. We strongly encourage you to attend one of these sessions if you’re able.

Please see the flyer below for dates, times, and additional details. Please note that these sessions are very valuable and we strongly urge you to attend. Additionally, these sessions are held virtually as well, so you can join from the comfort of your home.

DCBS Recruitment & Certification (R&C West) was proud to stand alongside CASA of Southern Kentucky, Somerset Junior Woman’s Club, the Early Childhood Council, Adanta, and the City of Somerset for the Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation signing at the Pulaski County Courthouse.

As Pulaski County Judge Executive Marshall Todd shared, our children are the future of this community, and their safety, stability, and well-being are essential to the success of the entire Lake Cumberland region. This proclamation is more than words. It’s a commitment.

A commitment to prevention.
A commitment to partnership.
A commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and feel safe.

Prevention starts with all of us. It happens in our homes, our schools, our churches, and our communities. When we support families, we strengthen futures.

DCBS remains dedicated to the mission of “A Home for Every Child,” and we are grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up, speak up, and stand in the corner of our children.

Let’s continue to work together to grow a safer, stronger tomorrow for every child in Somerset and Pulaski County.
