📚✏️🔢 Hands-On Math Success: Somerset High School
Through the "Math Made Easy" innovative grant written by William Mock, teachers were provided with tools to facilitate meaningful conversations and hands-on application of math concepts.
Students were selected at random to serve as models and showcase their skills, increasing engagement and encouraging active participation in lessons. By giving students opportunities to demonstrate their thinking, teachers were able to foster deeper understanding while creating an interactive learning environment.
The tools also allowed teachers greater freedom to move throughout the classroom, monitor student progress, and provide support where it was needed most. The result will increase student engagement, stronger mathematical understanding, and more dynamic instruction.

🚴📚Pedaling for Progress: Somerset Somerset Elementary School
Through the "Spin to Win" innovative grant written by Lizette Martinez, stationary bikes were incorporated into the library to support the diverse sensory and behavioral needs of students who benefit from alternative strategies to succeed.
By combining movement with learning, this project helps students who struggle with focus, attention, and task completion stay engaged and successful in the classroom. The stationary bikes provide a positive outlet for energy while allowing students to remain actively involved in academic activities.
Through movement-based learning, students can improve concentration, increase engagement, and build confidence—proving that sometimes success is just a pedal away! 🌟

📚📝Building Future Ready Readers: Somerset Junior High
Through the "Scope Into Success" innovative grant, Destiny Vasquez wrote this grant with a goal to directly provide high-quality, equitable instruction that prepares all students for academic success and postsecondary readiness with implementing SCOPE Magazine.
The goal of this grant was to increase student performance at the Meets and Masters levels on STAAR while also supporting the growth of our ESL students.
As the year progressed, students demonstrated increased confidence when responding to nonfiction texts and showed improvement in organizing and supporting written responses with textual evidence. Several students also showed measurable growth on benchmark assessments, particularly in nonfiction comprehension and extended response writing skills.
With a focus toward strengthening their reading comprehension, fluency, and writing skills to better prepare them for success at the secondary level, this shift led to some of the most rewarding outcomes of the project. Students who previously lacked confidence began volunteering to read aloud, participate in discussions, and complete writing tasks with greater independence. Their willingness to take academic risks increased significantly throughout the year.

🧠📚Building Bright Thinkers in 3rd Grade: SSGT Michael P. Barrera Veterans Elementary
Through the "Third Grade Think Tank" innovative grant, Jessica Ryan Villarreal-Mock rated it successful with a high level of student engagement.
The grant successfully accomplished its original goal of enhancing student learning through the use of high-quality picture books connected to social studies and science curriculum. The books provided engaging, age-appropriate resources that helped bring important concepts to life and allowed students to make meaningful connections between reading and content instruction.
In social studies, the picture books were used to support lessons on communities, government, geography, cultures, and holidays around the world. For example, students read books about different countries and celebrations and completed related hands-on activities to deepen their understanding. During the government unit, students created “If I Were President” posters where they shared ideas about how they would lead the country. In geography, students read a picture book about maps and then designed personal maps to represent important places in their own lives.
In science, the books were used to introduce and reinforce concepts such as plant life cycles. After reading The Seed Is Sleepy, students learned about seed germination and had the opportunity to plant seeds in the school garden. This hands-on experience helped students connect what they read to real-world observations and applications.

🎋☀️🌱Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls: SSGT Michael P. Barrera Veterans Elementary
Through the "Hands-On Texas" innovative grant, Juan Dominguez had a vision for an outdoor learning lab. This grant reimagines traditional science and social studies instruction by moving learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. Instead of relying only on textbooks, lectures, or digital simulations, students engage in real-world, hands-on learning in an outdoor space designed to reflect the natural and regional characteristics of Texas.
Students don’t just read about soil types—they touch, observe, and compare actual soils from different regions of Texas. They don’t just discuss how sunlight affects plant growth—they see it happen in real time through observation and exploration.
This outdoor learning lab transforms instruction into an engaging, inquiry-based experience that promotes discovery, critical thinking, and meaningful cross-curricular connections.
