Happy Mother's Day to all who appreciate and celebrate the day!

As with all commemoration days, for many this is a day of celebrating all the kinds of Mothers, and for others it is a difficult day with experiences and memories best left behind. One of the best aspects of Humanism is having an appreciation for everyone's life experiences that bring us together with respect and compassion. May we enjoy this second Sunday in May in whatever ways we've created for ourselves and those we love and cherish.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

As humanists, we believe that this is our one life, one chance, one beautiful opportunity to be caretakers of this Earth and leave it better than we found it for future generations.

As one of the 10 Commitments of Humanism, it is our great responsibility to care for the environment and all its inhabitants.

According to Pew Research Center, 87% of atheists “support stricter environmental regulations” + 83% of atheists believe “the Earth is getting warmer mostly because of human activity.”

There is no Planet B.

Happy Earth Day. 🌎🌿

NJHN is so pleased and excited to announce that on June 28, after the conclusion of our short annual membership meeting, our guest speaker will be Leo Igwe, a board member of Humanists International and founder of the Humanist Association of Nigeria. Leo will be traveling and speaking around the U.S in June and he'll join us via Zoom. His talk will focus on the rise of nonreligion in Africa.

Leo is a human rights activist and promoter of humanism around the world. He is most known for fighting superstition and witchcraft-related persecution, and advocating for secular activists imprisoned for blasphemy. You can read more about Leo at

Five years ago today, our country witnessed an historic affront to compassion, civility, and democracy itself during what was supposed to be a peaceful transition of power.

America’s roots are deeply troubled - and at the same time, we’re a nation rich with resilient, kind humans who work tirelessly towards a better world. Although we have a long way to go, we’re grateful for the remarkable efforts of elected officials and everyday Americans alike, who routinely stand up for democracy.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

As the clock turns and a new year begins, we step forward together with hope grounded in care for one another. The year ahead will bring challenges we cannot yet see, but also countless chances to choose compassion, fairness, and courage in our everyday actions.

May we meet this new beginning by listening more closely, acting more thoughtfully, and remembering that the future is shaped not by what we wish for, but by what we do for and with each other.

Pete Hegseth has no right to tell anyone what to believe or how to pray.

Hegseth’s broadside against the Army Spiritual Fitness Guide - including putting scare quotes around “faith” traditions he doesn’t recognize or value - is an attack against any member of the military who doesn’t practice his form of conservative Christianity.

Hegseth tries to hide this by attacking “secular humanism.” But the irony is that, despite the fact that certified humanist chaplains serve Americans every day in hospitals, prisons, and college campuses across the country, they are not allowed to serve in the military.

Every single member of our military, regardless of their religious beliefs - Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, humanist, or anything else - deserves access to a chaplain who will support their well-being.
