πŸ’š Thank You, Community

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for our June Music in the Park event. It was a beautiful evening filled with music, laughter, and community spirit. To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, or cheered us on, thank you for helping make the event memorable.

Today, we have some difficult news to share.

Despite our efforts, we were unable to secure the funding and sponsorship support necessary to make the August 15th Music in the Park event happen. We have made the painful decision to cancel it.

This is particularly heartbreaking because the event was intended to be a special recognition of the 5-year anniversary of the Caldor Fire. The Caldor Fire changed our community forever and ultimately became the reason the West Slope Foundation was founded. We had hoped to bring our community together to honor those affected, celebrate our community's resilience, reflect on how far we have come together since 2021, and celebrate the spirit that emerged from one of the most challenging times in our region's history.

We are devastated that we cannot bring this event to life as we had envisioned.

Community events like Music in the Park are only possible through the generosity of sponsors, donors, and supporters. While we are deeply disappointed, we remain committed to the mission that began in the wake of the Caldor Fire: helping our community prepare, recover, and grow stronger together.

Thank you for standing with us. 🎡❀️

Thank you to everyone who attended in June, as well as our volunteers, supporters, and community partners. Your continued belief in our mission means everything to us, and we look forward to finding future opportunities to come together and commemorate this important milestone.

πŸ€— Global Hug Your Kids Day: Building Strong Bonds & Stronger Preparedness πŸ€—

Today, on Global Hug Your Kids Day, we're reminded of the simple yet powerful impact of a hug. It’s a chance to strengthen family bonds and remind our children they are loved, valued, and supported.

At West Slope Foundation, we know strong families create resilient communities. When families plan for disasters and emergencies, one important group is often left out of the conversation: our kids.

Children are more than those we protect during emergenciesβ€”they can be valuable members of the preparedness team. Kids can help build emergency kits, learn evacuation routes, memorize important phone numbers, create family communication plans, care for pets, and remind adults to review preparedness supplies.

Including children in preparedness activities reduces fear and uncertainty while building confidence, responsibility, and resilience. When kids understand what to do during an emergency, they can become calm, capable helpers for their families and communities.

πŸ’™ That's why West Slope Foundation created the Disaster Readiness Youth Ambassadors Program. Through hands-on learning, leadership development, and preparedness education, we empower youth to become confident preparedness advocates and future community leaders.

Today, give your kids an extra hug, remind them how much they are loved, and start a conversation about family preparedness. The skills and confidence they gain today could make all the difference tomorrow.

What's better than a scoop of your favorite ice cream on a summer day?
Enjoying it while knowing your family is prepared for whatever comes your way.

As we celebrate National Ice Cream Day, the West Slope Foundation encourages everyone to take a moment between sweet treats to think about emergency preparedness. Summer brings BBQs, vacations, and outdoor adventuresβ€”but it can also bring extreme heat, wildfires, and power outages.

Here's a simple preparedness challenge:
🍦 Pick your favorite ice cream flavor
πŸŽ’ Check your emergency supply kit
πŸ“‹ Review your family emergency plan
🚨 Make sure you're signed up for local emergency alerts

Just like keeping ice cream cold requires planning, staying safe during emergencies means preparing before disaster strikes.

This National Ice Cream Day, enjoy a scoop, make memories with loved ones, and take one small step toward being ready for the unexpected.

🍦🚨🌲❀️ Together, we're building a stronger, safer, and more resilient community. πŸ¦β€οΈπŸš’πŸŒ²
