🌞 Healthy Somerset Wants You, Your Family, and Your Pets to Stay Safe in the Heat! 💙

Extreme heat can be dangerous for everyone including our four-legged family members. As temperatures rise, let’s work together to keep our community safe.

Here are a few simple ways to beat the heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned spaces or visit a local cooling station.
🧢 Wear lightweight clothing, use sunscreen, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day (10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
🤝 Check on older adults, neighbors living alone, young children, and anyone with chronic health conditions.

🐾 Don’t forget your pets!
• Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening.
• Test the pavement with your hand, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws.
• Make sure pets have access to shade or air conditioning.
• Never leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle not even for a minute.

❄️ Need to cool off? Visit one of our local cooling stations during business hours:
📍 Pulaski County Public Library
📍 The Center for Rural Development
📍 Somerset-Pulaski County Senior Citizens Center
📍 Somerset Mall common areas
📍 Any participating community location displaying a Cooling Station sign

At Healthy Somerset, we know that a healthy community cares for one another including our furry friends. A bottle of water, a quick check on a neighbor, or helping someone get to a cooling station can make all the difference.

Let’s stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for each other this summer. ❤️
