We need your help! After months of research and planning. Somers is getting blood. This is an important moment for the department, community, and all we treat. Local 4831 along with The Somers Fire & Rescue Association are fundraising to offset the burden to the tax payers. All monies help and we would enjoying meeting with anyone who contributes. You can remain anonymous, but we would like to show support to those who support us. There is a QR code on the flyer attached. All monies raised goes directly to the blood support fund. We are setting the goal at $15,000.

4831 was honored to have one last dinner with Harry Wilson and Marcus Foss (Jimmy).Harry is heading to a fulltime position with Caledonia Fire Department while Marcus will be joining Pleasant Prairie Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3785. It was a great morning at the station. Zech has a ways to go, but he has an amazing support group. It was great to meet the family. Zech is in great hands.

Somers residents, with the hazardous air quality outside today from the wildfire smoke we have had people ask about masks. We do have some masks available at our village hall for those that need them. Please be careful and take proper precautions based on your age and health levels during this hazardous air quality event.

The air outside is at an unhealthy level. This means if you do or do not have any health issues, you should not be exposing yourself to the air. For those with respiratory and cardiac issues, stay indoors. If anyone has to be outdoors, please limit your exposure time if able. Check on those who have known issues. If you have a respiratory issues. Make sure you are taking your medications and if you start having any issues. Seek medical attention immediately and call 911 if needed. Due to all the wildfire smoke. Your bodies ability to overcome the issue is limited.

Members of 4831 are at a major crash on I-94 in Somers. South Shore Fire has also responded and multiple transports have been noted. The Kenosha Sheriff’s Office has requested their major crash team to investigate. Multiple lanes and possibly all of the southbound lanes will be closed for an extended time.

Update: All lanes southbound have been closed. Traffic is being diverted at Highway KR.

Luckily this only caused property damage at the time. Yet, multiple accidents took place with injuries noted at the intersection of State Highway 31 and 18th street. This was because the intersection had no power to the stop lights until the power was restored. Sometimes the incident is only the first link in a bigger chain of events.

Today, Fire Chief Ben Andersen drove Kenosha County Emergency Management Director Chris Hannah and Meteorologist Tim Halbach of the National weather service around the Village and Town of Somers assessing damage from Tuesday nights storm. It was officially determined that we were hit by a high-end EF-1 tornado with estimated top wind speeds of 105-110MPH.
