It's finally at the printer! It contains a collection of all 41 of the Revolutionary War Militiamen from Atlantic County's Pension Applications. One can now read their first hand explanations of how they battled the British right here in our own area. They explain when they served, under whom they served, where they went, and what occurred. It relates who was wounded, who was killed, and what it was like to fight in our War for Independence. The 391 page book took nine months to complete and contains a clear English transcription of the very words they wrote, along with the scans of the originals from the National Archives. It's available to order pre-paid at the Atlantic County Historical Society at 907 Shore Road in Somers Point, NJ. The paperback is $50.00 and the digital version on a Flash Drive is $25.00. The Surf House was one of Atlantic City's four foundational "first-rate" luxury hotels, originally built in 1854 to support the city's new railroad. Spanning a full city block and featuring sweeping verandas, it was ultimately demolished around 1880.
