Syracuse Challenger Baseball

Syracuse Challenger Baseball Syracuse Challenger Baseball is the largest special needs players division in the US. The league is free for all players. Currently, we serve over 200 players.

Syracuse Challenger Baseball is the largest single-district Little League International Challenger Baseball program for children and adults with special needs in the country. Our goal is to create friendships among players, parents and volunteers through the game of baseball. Our players are children as young as four years old and our oldest player is 65 years old. Our teams are divided into three

divisions. The Junior Division is for players under 15 years old, our Adult Division is open to players 15 years and older and our Senior Division is open to players who would like to play a more competitive game of baseball. At every game, every player gets up to bat and stays until they have gotten their hit. All players in the outfield run to catch the many balls that are thrown out across the infield and outfield. In the Senior Division players are using more typical baseball rules where they can strike out and can catch a fly ball and make an out. Each player receives a free hat and jersey and is celebrated at a free end-of-year event for the team and their families. The highlight of the event is each player is called on stage to receive a trophy from their coach. For children who have never played a team sport, this trophy symbolizes the accomplishments and friendships they have made over the summer. The league is run entirely by volunteers including coaches, assistants, league directors, and an all-volunteer board of directors.

For my personal, professional, and volunteer colleagues and Syracuse Challenger Baseball & FACEBOOK friends: I am grateful and humbled to share that after 39 1/4 years of service to the public and community as an attorney, advocate, and counselor at law - 32 3/4 years in private practice (20 1/4 years as a partner in my firm with my brother Stefano Cambareri and colleagues Scott Koldin and Scott Brenneck) and the last 6 1/2 years as a Principal Counsel for the NYS Appellate Division, Fourth Department Fifth Judicial District Attorney Grievance Committee, I am officially RETIRED effective 2/26/26!! I started working at 6 years old delivering newspapers with d my brother and mentor Joseph Cambareri MD, and continued to work for the last 59 years until this glorious day!!

I am excited about the present and the future and plan on utilizing my continuous unbridled enthusiasm and energy to: 1) experience life’s majesty with my amazing wife, sons, and family; 2) dive even deeper into my quest to be a true Catholic Christian gentleman; 3) continue my special divine vocational call to “make a difference” for special needs children and their families as a volunteer “leader by service” in my 23rd year as Executive Director of Syracuse Challenger Baseball, 23rd year as VP of Advocates Incorporated, 3rd year serving the Board of Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, 15th year as a Board member and tri-spokeCarrier Park Carrier Park fundraising nonprofit FRIENDS OF DEWITT PARKS & REC INC!!!

Perhaps my most anticipated and exciting event on the horizon started as a divinely inspired “dream” of mine 20 years ago when I stepped forth on a quest to find land and a community partnership to build an all-accessible, fully inclusive multifield complex to serve athletes of “all differing abilities” and as the “Home of Syracuse Challenger Baseball.” On Saturday, May 16, 2026, I will join my incredible Challenger Baseball Colleagues and superstars Dee Perkins and Jennifer Savastino Kinane, and Dennis Cleary and the Friends of Dewitt Board Members, Ed Michalenko and the Dewitt Town Board, and hundreds of Challenger Baseball volunteers, coaches, parents, sponsors, super donors, friends, and community members with the Grand Opening of the $16M, Phase 3 Carrier Park “Superfield of Dreams”, Robert Morris Family Challenger Field and Technology Pavilion tower!!!!!! I look forward to celebrating with many of you there — more exciting updates on the Superfield of Dreams event to come!

Lastly, I have attached two amazing photos, taken by the super sportscaster Niko Tamurian of me presenting my first “rally the community” presentation of the proposed Carrier Park “Challenger” Field of Dreams on October 17, 2012!! Because of the efforts made by so many talented and passionate individuals, families, and community supporters and public servants, together we have finally achieved the dream!!!

SCHEDULES: We've been getting questions about Spring Training and the dates of the seasons. Currently we are busy planning our opening season at Carrier Park and to make thing really interesting we are switching over to a Little League approved website and registration process. So we are not ready to have any sign-ups happen. But here are the dates for both Spring Training and the Challenger Season:

SPRING TRAINING AT PERFECT PRACTICE: April 25th to May 30th. Times are the same as last year - 3pm Juniors - 4pm Adults and 5pm Seniors.
CHALLENGER BASEBALL DATES AT CARRIER PARK: Our season kicks off at Carrier Park on Tuesday June 2nd at ends on Thursday July 30th. ALL DIVISIONS will be playing at Carrier Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

All that being said special thanks to Junior Parent Nicole Ginsburg who is taking us through the setup of Sports Connect. When we are ready we will email and/or text you with details!

Greetings Syracuse Challenger Baseball players, coaches, families, volunteers, friends, and sponsors:

It is with both humility and great joy that I share an absolutely amazing experience that I was fortunate to be part of: this past Tuesday, December 2, 2025, I was selected by the Syracuse Orange to perform the National Anthem 🇺🇸 prior to the start of the SU v. #12 ranked Tennessee Mens Basketball game at the JMA Wireless Dome!!! It was an exhilarating moment with my family and several friends present.

I gave my best passionate, patriotic, heart-on-sleeve performance to inspire the SU team and fans present! And we experienced a thrilling 62-60 SU win!

I wish to thank all the SU fans and Challenger Baseball families who gave my family and I high fives and congratulatory well wishes at the game and flooded my phone with wonderful text messages!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🍊🍊 Special thanks to Kristine and Finn O’Brien for sending me an awesome video of the performance!

I hope y’all enjoy this video!😀🏀🍊🙏🏻
