Hoppy was with us for 5 years. She survived a weasel attack a few years ago and learned to hop around on one leg. She’d HOP to me every morning and evening and I’d give her a special pocket full of dried meal worms. It was our thing. She knew my voice and loved to be held.

Farm life is hard. Please romanticize it or get animals if you can’t do everything in your power to make them safe. And just remember that all of our food has so much human and animal life behind it, so respect it. Try not to waste it. Thank you 🙏

That’s a spoof caption although we are very grateful. Just wanted to shall w/y’all that now that hints of spring are here in Cali, the chickens who were resting up during winter and not producing, are now producing. Makes sense- no one can birth non stop without a break. (Ahem)

So how do YOU get eggs year ‘round? The industrial chicken farmers keep heat lamps on to mimic the longer days of spring and summer.

Poor girls.

The moral of the story: Buy eggs from your local farmer. 🍳 🐓

Shoutout to all the who know the struggle — sometimes the kids are grumpy, the setting is chaotic, and the “perfect shot” just isn’t happening. Case in point: this gem featuring our beloved construction crew and the kids... and Jen’s son pulling his best ugly face. 🫠
