Today I stopped at Gallup Homestead’s magical little self-service flower shop—run by Michael and Yazmin Gallup—with rows of flowers growing directly behind it.
Their flowers are organically grown. And the shop? The cutest.
And here’s the why bother: one lifecycle comparison found that an imported hothouse bouquet can produce roughly 10 times the carbon emissions of a locally field-grown, seasonal bouquet.
If 10,000 people made that swap just once, it could prevent emissions equivalent to taking approximately 63 cars off the road for a year—while also keeping unnecessary plastic packaging out of the landfill.
Less heated greenhouse energy. Less refrigerated shipping. Less plastic. More money supporting a hardworking local family and the cottage industries that make our communities so special.
