We’ve made our home the last 7 years here in Iowa.

Seven years of growth.
Seven years of storms.
Seven years of pruning, rebuilding, learning, planting, waiting, and walking forward in faith.

And honestly… it feels like the closing of a season.

Not an ending in a bad way.

More like standing on a mountain after a long climb and finally being able to look back at the trail behind you.

Over these last several years I’ve watched God slowly turn over old ground in my life so new things could take root.

Just like a field transitioning from one crop to another… there are seasons where things must be released before new growth can happen.

Some seasons were peaceful.

Others felt like storms.

And one storm in particular keeps coming back to mind lately—the 2020 Derecho here in Iowa.

I was driving home on back roads pulling a trailer while sustained 120+ MPH winds tore across the state. Debris circled around me, visibility dropped, and at one point I had to pull over in the middle of it all just to ratchet strap my tonneau cover back down.

Meanwhile my wife was calling trying to figure out where I was and whether I was safe.

Then I looked in the backseat at my old German Shepherd, Archie.

Completely asleep.

At peace while chaos swirled around him.

That image has stayed with me for years.

Because in many ways, that’s how these last 7 years have felt.

Storms around us.
Growth happening at the same time.
Learning to trust God while navigating things we never expected.

And somehow… peace still present in the middle of it.

Now here we are entering year two on the farm.
Trees going into the ground.
Pumpkins returning for another season.
New relationships forming.
New doors opening.

And as I sit here reflecting, it truly feels like one season is closing… while another begins taking root.

I’m grateful for every storm, every lesson, every brotherhood, and every prayer that helped shape the climb.

The roots were growing the whole time.

Planting season has officially started at Love Your Neighbor Farm.

Asian pears are in the ground along the creek walk. Cut flowers are starting to break through the soil. In the next couple weeks: chestnuts, sunflowers, pumpkins, and acorn squash.

One thing about the farm… something is always growing. 🌱🌻🌰

Long before *Love Your Neighbor Farm*… God was shaping the mission in deep water.

My partner had gone out to reach stranded divers… but when his motor died and wouldn’t restart, the rescuer suddenly needed rescuing.

A squall line was closing fast on our 110’ research vessel. Seas that were 2–3’ quickly built to 6–8’ swells.

With a lifeline tied to the ship, I went over the side and started swimming straight into the storm.

Some moments don’t just test what you’re made of… they reveal what God has been building all along.

This is part of the founder’s story.

Today was more than just picking up fruit trees…

Today I made a trip to **D&K Farm** to spend some time with my father-in-law… the “D” behind D&K… and to pick up the very first fruit trees for our 2026 planting at **Love Your Neighbor Farm**.

There’s something special about building alongside someone who took a step of faith nearly 20 years ago, planted his first trees, learned through the seasons, and now gets to see that investment continue into the next generation.

These trees will line the creek walk at Love Your Neighbor Farm… a place where families can slow down, kids can explore, stories can be shared, and people can experience God’s creation in a simple way.

This next planting will include several Asian pear varieties, new apple selections, and one tree that carries a story all its own…

A neighboring family has cared for this heritage apple for generations. It had never been officially named, but with its beautiful rose blush and the sweetness of the fruit… we couldn’t resist.

So from this day forward, this apple will be known as…

**“Lil Katie Rose.”**

Some trees produce fruit…
Some trees carry stories…
And some trees do both.

Grateful for family, for legacy, and for the opportunity to plant something that will outlive us all.

**And the planting continues…**

Six years ago… during COVID… Love Your Neighbor Ministry was a concept sketched out on paper.

Sketches.
Prayers.
Hard conversations.
A whole lot of unknown… and many answered prayers along the way.

A few years into that journey, God brought a mentor into the story.

Then one year ago—April 15, 2025—we stepped onto this land in faith.

This past April, we paid off the family and fully stepped into ownership.

Now we enter year two.

🌰 Chestnuts going in the ground from D&K Farm
🎃 Pumpkins planted last year—and again this year
🍎 Varieties of fruit trees
🍑 25 peaches grown from seed
🌸 Our first perennial cut flowers
🤝 Brothers showing up next weekend to help plant roots that will outlive us

What started as vision on paper during COVID… is now becoming a repeating rhythm of planting, harvesting, and rebuilding—year after year.

This past weekend, while walking the farm along the creek, a dear friend stopped, looked out over the land, and said:

"I’ve watched this go from paper… to reality."

That stopped me.

Because this was never just about building a farm.

It’s about building a place where men can reconnect, families can heal, and neighbors become brothers again.

As we step into this next season, I’m grateful for what’s already grown… and even more expectant for what’s being planted.

We’re just getting started.

Today was one of those days where you step back and realize… God is always connecting people, purpose, and timing.

This morning I spent time walking the woods with a new brother—our first real chance to simply get to know one another.

No agenda.
No business plan.
Just two men walking in God’s creation, sharing stories, gifts, struggles, and asking a simple question:

**“Lord… why did You bring our paths together?”**

Then this afternoon I found myself standing along the creek at **Love Your Neighbor Farm** with another brother—someone who has walked alongside me since this vision was first being drawn up during COVID.

As we stood there catching up, he looked around and said:

*"I’ve watched you build this in 5 years. From napkin to real property and trees in ground, We talked about different identities and how each part needs the other to complete thier designed purpose.

We're all different parts of the body, my hand has 4 fingers and only 1 thumb. Some of our jobs look similar. :D

Somewhere in between… both brothers found morels today.

I won’t say who went home with the bigger bounty…

But I know who walked away the fullest.

Today I was poured into through brotherhood, prayer, laughter, and the reminder that God brings people into our lives for a reason… some for a season, some for the journey.

There truly are many parts to the body.

What an amazing day.

I’ve been thinking about how God often prepares you before He answers your prayers—building the character needed to sustain the blessing you’ve been asking for.

I’ve asked God for many things in my life, and along the way I’ve also walked through challenges that forced real change. Not small ones—lawsuits, divorce, financial restarts, raising children through seasons I didn’t feel ready for. Each one carried lessons that reshaped how I think, how I carry myself, and how I see my fellow man.

Looking back, those trials weren’t wasted time. They were formation. They were preparation for what I had been praying for.

Ask your Father for the desires of your heart—but also pay attention to how He equips you to carry them. There is a refining that happens in the waiting, in the struggle, and in the rebuilding.

And there’s something beautiful about when your heart’s desire becomes God Himself—the One who created it all and owns it all. At that point, it’s no longer striving to obtain, but learning to receive what He freely gives as inheritance to His children.

Just as we see inheritance passed down in families—shaped not only by what is given, but by how we are raised to handle it—how much greater is what our Father in Heaven gives to those who trust Him.

Right now, He’s given me seeds to tend.

That means field prep, planting, care and weeding… and then, in time, harvest.
