Popcorn fundraising season has started!

Scouts from Troop 504 will be at Giant Eagle Marketplace in Solon and Aurora Walmart this Saturday, August 22nd until 6pm

This past weekend scouts from Troop 504 traveled from Solon, Ohio for their monthly camp outing.

Scouts camped along the Cuyahoga River in tents and canoed up and down River.

Scouts also learned about water safety including the importance of life-jackets. Other lessons including parts of a canoe and techniques for navigating waterways.

The City of Solon’s Summerfest looked a little different this year, but, like in years past, our troop was there educating the community about scouts and having a good time!

Along with the traditional Home Days rides and vendors, our troop hosted a prize wheel and talked to our neighbors about their Scouting Adventures!

Kids were also invited to try a ropes course, which was a big hit! A photo from the ropes course even made the front page of the Solon Times!

Thanks to everyone who made Summerfest a hit this year!

Over the weekend, the scouts traveled and camped in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to learn about The Battle of Gettysburg and life as a Civil War soldier.

This July marks the anniversary of the battle that has been called the Turning Point of the Civil War.

The scouts toured the battlefield and learned about how soldiers from Ohio were a crucial part of the Union victory.

Scouts also learned from Civil War Re-enacters about life in a Soldier camp on the 1860s including comparisons to modern camping and the importance of drum corp in the Union Army. Scouts even tried their hand at drum cadences!

Scouting teaches skills for life including outdoor skills and an appreciation for our great country, its history and the bravery of our service members. What a great lesson for our Scouts of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

Beaumont Scout Reservation in Ashtabula County, Ohio, is located near Austinburg.

It hosts week long over night camps for scout troops from all over the country and weekend adventures year long. Scouts can earn nearly all merit badges in courses including archery, riflery, swimming, small boat sailing, climbing, and fishing.

This video shows the Augustus Center to Lake Beaumont. This video was taken in a quiet moment while the scouts had their evening meal and the audio is original. You can hear local wildlife. Usually during camp the sounds from the shotgun range and scouts on bikes can be heard. Beaumont Scout Reservation

Gaga ball and the camp fire at the BBQ were memorable

Scouts spent a lot of their downtime/freetime playing Gaga Ball. If you’re not familiar with Gaga ball imagine never ending dodgeball in an octagon. You can see how much fun it can be. You’d think after earning merit badges and scout craft all day the scouts would want to rest but quite the opposite-they were usually off to the Gaga pit!

Other fun activities include a timeless camp tradition- telling stories by the campfire

This past weekend Troop 504 had a great time at our New Scout Outing.

Scouts were prepared for tent camping on the rain. They set up tents and learned outdoor skills while enjoying camp chili and skits.

If you've ever been camping as a scout, you know how great a bowl of chili and a night of skits can be!
