Located where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL) is the oldest publicly supported marine laboratory on the East Coast. Founded in 1925, it has been a nationa

l leader in fisheries, estuarine ecology, environmental chemistry and toxicology for more than 90 years. The CBL Visitor Center provides guests an opportunity to learn not only about our rich history, but the ongoing research our scientists are conducting in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and around the world. Exhibits highlight the health of the Chesapeake Bay, research conducted by our graduate students, and more. There are no admission or exhibit fees for the CBL Visitor Center.
