Adequate sunlight and nutrients help phytoplankton populations multiply into blooms large enough to be visible from space. On May 18, MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of a phytoplankton bloom just off the coast of Wallops Island and the Delmarva Peninsula.
