This is Mr. Mickey Thompson! 🐾

This sweet boy came into the shelter as a stray with severe skin issues. Mickey is truly a magical pup!

A very easygoing guy, Mickey LOVES everyone he meets, 2-legged and 4-legged alike! He is the perfect passenger on car rides, even when you take the wrong exit! Haha, inside joke, only Mickey would laugh about.

Mickey really enjoys relaxing next to his person. He is a fairly quiet boy who would love to join you on strolls through the neighborhood.

He is still brushing up on his house training skills and making good progress. It appears Mickey lived an outdoor life for some time. His skin issues have completely healed, and he’s ready to start a new chapter.

Mickey is currently at Monterey County Juvenile Hall, where young people practice their dog training skills and daily care with Mickey!

P.s. We are proud to partner with to give Mr. Mickey and Youth, a second chance. ❤️

Submit your adoption application on our website, and we will arrange for you to meet Mickey.

You've adopted a rescue pet! Now what?
🐾
By bringing a new pet into your home, you have made a long-term commitment. You'll want to be true to your word and fulfill that commitment! Here are a few tips to help your newly adopted pet adjust to their forever home.

It's important to remember that bringing home a new pet is a major life change - not just for you, but for the animal as well.

They need time to explore their new environment at their own pace. Everything is new! New people, new smells, new routines, new expectations, and a new environment can be overwhelming. Just like people need time to adjust to major changes, animals need time to decompress and settle in.

Many adopters have heard of the “3-3-3 Rule”:

🐾 The first 3 days: Your new pet may feel overwhelmed, scared, anxious, or unsure of their surroundings.

🐾 The first 3 weeks: They begin learning routines, gaining confidence, and understanding what is expected of them.

🐾 The first 3 months: They start feeling at home, building trust, and showing their true personality.

Some animals adjust more quickly, while others may take even longer. Every pet is an individual and will be different.

The stability of a home where a pet experiences consistency, reassurance, and patience is important for alleviating the stress that change can bring. Give your new pet the opportunity they deserve to settle in and learn their new environment.
