Some photos of Saturday's (10/14/23) solar eclipse, taken 13 miles north of Socorro with a solar filter. Sky didn't get all that dark at totality, but temperature in Polvadera dropped from 68F to 53F in 10 minutes, then quickly recovered. Ring of Fire totality about 10:35. a.m. Last photo a composite for dynamic range of the eclipse.

HAUNTED SOCORRO Part 2 is here:

10/25/2021

It's almost HALLOWEEN. Historically, there are some well documented hauntings in the Socorro area. The "Haunted Socorro" stories, were originally published in El Defensor Chieftain. Links to these two articles are on the SCHS website home page. http://socorro-history.org/

We regret to announce that Oktoberfest 2021 has been cancelled by the SCHS Board of Directors. Just too many uncertainties -- covid is still a moving target that makes planning and anticipating the changing health restrictions on food service come Oct. 2 impossible. Thank you for your understanding and support.
