Standing Firm in Faith – A Testimony of a Grieving Father
A long post but please read to the end
I know someone needs to hear this I haven’t gone through what I have for God not to give me this message just to be written someone out there needs it!!!!
Today I stand before you not as someone with all the answers, but as a grieving father learning—day by day—what it means to stand firm in faith.
There’s a song that has become one of my favorites.
Every time I hear it, it speaks straight to my soul. And if you know me, you know that sometimes when a song hits me like that, I feel led to share a testimony of how its words are true in my life.
One line says, “When the shadows rise around me and the winds of doubt grow strong, I will fix my eyes on Jesus—He’s my anchor.”
That takes me straight back to August 7, 2023—the day my precious son passed away.
Scripture says:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
And on that day, the shadows didn’t just rise—they swallowed everything. But even in the darkest valley, Jesus was the anchor that held.
Another line says, “Though the world may shake beneath me, still Your truth will never move. You’re my fortress, You’re my refuge.”
And God promises us:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.” (Psalm 18:2)
My world did shake.
My heart did break.
And the devil didn’t miss a chance to whisper lies.
He told me it was my fault.
That I failed as a father.
That because it was my weapon, I should live in guilt forever.
But God’s Word says:
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
Every day the enemy tries—but every day I put on the armor of God and stand firm (Ephesians 6:10–11).
That night, I cried out to God, “Lord, I can’t handle this. You have to take it from me.”
And He did—not all at once, not by erasing the pain, but by carrying me.
Do I still struggle?
You dang right I do. Daily.
Jesus, You are my strength and my shield.
Just like Psalm 28:7 says:
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.”
The song says, “I will rise, I will remain firm in the power of Your name.”
And the Bible says:
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
“When the fire tests my spirit and the night is closing in, You remind me You are with me and Your mercy never ends.”
That’s Lamentations 3:22–23:
“His mercies never end; they are new every morning.”
And I refuse to bow to fear or pressure because…
“Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” (John 8:36)
God tells us:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
So this is my prayer:
“Lord, let the world see the light I carry through the darkness. Let my life lift Your glory high.”
Scripture says:
“Let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:16)
In every storm, in every trial, in every valley, I will stand firm.
Not because I’m strong…
but because He is faithful.
I want to speak to two groups of people today:
1. those who are grieving,and
2. those who don’t yet know Jesus as their Savior.
(1st . A word to the grieving)
Maybe you’ve lost someone.
Maybe your world has been shaken like mine.
Maybe you lie awake at night asking questions you can’t answer.
If that’s you, hear this:
You do not walk this valley alone.
The same God who carried me is willing and able to carry you.
Scripture says,
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
He sees your tears.
He hears your cries.
And His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).
The enemy may be whispering lies to you too—
but God’s truth is louder.
His love is deeper.
And His grace is strong enough for every wound.
If you’re grieving today, I invite you to come to the One who can lift your head, steady your heart, and give you strength for the next step.
(2. A call to salvation.)
And now I want to speak to those who don’t yet know Jesus.
Maybe you’ve heard about Him.
Maybe you’ve been around church your whole life.
Maybe you’ve run from Him.
Or maybe you’re sitting here today realizing you need Him.
I’m telling you—from the deepest place in my own pain—
you cannot walk this life, or this grief, without Jesus.
He is the only One who can save you,
the only One who can forgive you,
the only One who can give you hope that survives death.
Romans 10:9 says,
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Not might be.
Not could be.
You will be saved.
Saved from sin.
Saved from guilt.
Saved from the enemy’s lies.
Saved from hopelessness.
Saved into a new life, into a family, into eternal hope.
If you want that today, it’s as simple and powerful as a prayer like this:
“Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Forgive my sins. Come into my life. Be my Lord, my Savior, my strength. I give myself to You. In Jesus name, Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer or want to talk about it, find me.
I would love to pray with you, stand with you, and walk with you.
Because in every storm, in every valley, in every moment of grief…
Jesus is faithful.
And today can be the day you begin your journey of standing firm in Him.
God bless you all!!!
