As soon as those leaves start turning, you know it's Volunteer Season. ☂

United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore does a lot of cool stuff, but one of our favorites is how they're able to connect volunteers to causes that matter. For GOLD, volunteers are an invaluable resource, especially when it comes to special events like the Ocean City Running Festival - The best part? No one's going to make you run. 😅

"What kind of volunteers do you need?"

So glad you asked! This is great for responsible folks that enjoy hanging outside, making some noise to encourage those runners as they keep on keepin' on, and for social groups, clubs or teams who all need those coveted Service Learning Hours. 😉

Come support the runners by cheering them on, keeping water cups full, and snacks handy! The more the merrier, and with more support provided means a larger portion of proceeds goes to GOLD, and our community.

That's a big number, right? right?!

Each request is a single moment where a family's need became untenable. They come on behalf of those families, from one of our partner agencies; Social Services, Health Department, MAP, CAC, Public Schools. I think you get it. The last 13 years have been busy, and that's not even half of GOLD's history.

Numbers can be humbling. And not just in a "Please, Lord! Please don't make me go back to math class!" kind of way.

We haven't done it on our own. We couldn't do it on our own. It's those partnerships and community support that keep the doors open, the lights on, and the engine running. Thank you. ☂☂

One of those "attitude of gratitude" moments, right?

October came on quick, and that's alright by me. Definitely my favorite month. But that's because at home we're equipped to handle it.

Nearly 1 in 10 Worcester County households live in poverty. More than 1 in 4 struggle to make ends meet.

We know that every dollar counts these days, especially in the grocery store, so Mikayla's got some tips and tricks for you, when it comes to hitting those sales with this new helpful how-to video.

We've had a few requests for warm clothes and coats this week. Are YOU ready for Maryland weather? Your neighbors might not be.

GOLD's VAULT keeps a stock of new clothes, but what's on the shelf and what's on the rack depends on the generosity of compassionate people.

People like you.

If the breeze gave you a chill this week, consider donating. A coat, a pair of jeans or warm socks, maybe a sweater. We are getting into sweater weather, after all, and what's sweater weather without a sweater to weather the weather?

I am genuinely tickled about this one.

Worcester County Public Schools MD has to be one of our most engaged partners, and that's a tall order when they're keeping company with Worcester County Health Department and Social Services. Our school system refers students and families for Backpacks, Youth Summer Scholarships, Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners , and our Helping Hands for the Holidays programs (both coming up soon!), as well as the not-so-glamorous but foundationally important Financial Assistance aspect of our work.

These guys and gals are pros, and integral team members. So when they want to say thank you to *us*, we get all warm and fuzzy.
