GCTA Volunteer Opportunity for Sunday, August 30th!

We need volunteers from 7:30-9:30 a.m. for the annual Greene County Summer Sizzle L6 USTA Junior Tennis Tournament at Greene Central High School. Send an email to [email protected] if you would like to help.

Greene Central High School and Greene County Middle School tennis players have to have ten hours per year in order to earn scholarship points for that year (GCTA membership is also required).

Kindal Shores of Greenville will be shadowing our USTA referees Dela Clark and Danny Ellis this weekend at the annual Snow Hill L6 USTA Summer Junior Tennis Tournament. She is working on her referee certification. Shores is the mother of Levi Vogelsong who played number two singles as a junior for John Paul II Catholic High School last spring.

Today is the birthday of Amanda Clemmons Savage. Savage, a 1997 graduate of Greene Central High School, played four years for the Lady Rams and played number one singles on the 1994 squad that won the school's first conference championship. Clemmons was also a member of the school's first junior varsity women's tennis team in 1993. She was not a starter as a freshman at the beginning of the season on that junior varsity team, but moved all the way up to number one singles on the varsity squad in 1994 the following year and was named Eastern Plains Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year in 1994, 1995, and 1996. She was named co-Most Valuable Player of the team in 1994, 1995, and 1996.

The Greene County Tennis Association will be hosting the annual Snow Hill Summer Junior L6 USTA Tennis Tournament August 29-30 at the Greene Central High School Tennis Complex in Snow Hill.
The deadline for entry is Monday, August 24th at 5:59 p.m.
