Greene Central High school seniors Aubree Smith and Grace Baggett received scholarships from the Greene County Tennis Association on Wednesday night. The Greene County Tennis Association has now given $92,372.98 in scholarships since its inception in 1997. These girls are the daughters of former Greene Central tennis players Jennie Joyner Baggett and Traci Moye Smith.

Coleson Miller, son of Greene Central High School graduates Dana Miller and Laura Barrow Miller, started for the D.H. Conley Vikings this year. He won the Coach's Award at the end of the season, and he was named to the 2026 Big Carolina 6-A/7-A Men's Tennis All-Conference squad. The Vikings went undefeated in the regular season and advanced to the fourth round of the dual team state playoffs.

Julie Sugg Honeycutt is celebrating a birthday today. Honeycutt, a 1996 Greene Central High School graduate, played three years for the Lady Rams. She started as a freshman in 1993 and was a member of the 1994 squad that won the school's first conference championship.

The Greene Central High School men's tennis team will play the North Carolina School of Science and Math this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Whippoorwill Park in Durham in the NCHSAA 3-A dual team state semifinals. The Rams enter the match at the number two seed in the East while the Unicorns are the number one seed in the East. The winner will play for the 3-A state title this weekend at the Burlington Tennis Center. This is Greene Central's first trip to the men's tennis state semifinals since 2005.

Nick and Sam Avent's tremendous performance at the NCHSAA 3-A Men's Tennis State Individual Championships in doubles this weekend at the Burlington Tennis Center will go down in the lore of Greene Central High School Tennis. This was the only third men's doubles team from the school to reach the state finals in doubles. Seniors Brent Darden and Lin Hall reached the finals in 2005, losing in three sets despite having a match point in the second set. Senior Andrew Hulbert and junior Brent Darden won the 2-A state doubles title in 2004.
