Empowering Strides

Empowering Strides Empowering Strides is a Therapeutic Riding program focusing on empowering leadership and confidence in youth facing emotional and cognitive challenges.

Empowering Strides is a non profit organization that provides therapeutic horsemanship to children who face behavioral, emotional and/or cognitive challenges. Through the use of horses we can offer youth a different perspective. Horses often mirror the emotions of their handler which allows the horse to teach a child far easier than an authoritative figure. Horses gently encourage a new awareness and connection in people that grows a person’s self-awareness and leadership abilities.

Thank you to Sno-Isle vet tech extern, Reese, who joined the Empowering Strides team for 100 hours over the last couple of months. Reese assisted often with lessons, feeding, vetting, and the many, many barn chores. Reese was able to find a missing horseshoe (as pictured) after we had a team of 6 people searching the pasture for it for over 30 minutes. While regrouping to admit defeat, Reese looked down and found it just on the short grass. We wish Reese the best on her next adventure and look forward to welcoming her back as a volunteer as her schedule allows!

Don't worry! Horses are still our specialty. 'Hippo' is the Greek word for 'horse' and we need you to support our new hippotherapy program! In hippotherapy, a licensed therapist (in our case an occupational therapist) uses the horse as a tool in their session to work toward therapy goals. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find the paper work in the upper right quadrant of our website at the below link! Please share and help us spread the word!

We are delighted to announce that longtime volunteer Abby has officially joined Empowering Strides as staff! Abby has been the cornerstone of the Saturday volunteer team since she started volunteering and has donated quite literally hundreds of hours to the program. Over the past few months, she has been working towards her PATH CTRI certification and is joining the team to support our new hippotherapy program. Congratulations, Abby! We are so excited to have you joining the team.
